Foods tasting weird, anyone else?

I'd rather fix the problem than smooth it out. In the study they used senolytics and mice improved — wouldn't have been the same with just quercetin. I read more and found GLP1s boost BCL2, which stops cells from dying (opposite of senolysis). That makes it harder for senolytic agents to work.

I'm so thankful this medication exists and is helping me out. It's still suppressing my appetite, but it's causing another issue: nearly every food just tastes...wrong. Too much salt, strange textures, just 'off.' I can hardly eat anything which means I just throw it away. And I hate wasting food! I end up with a protein shake to at least get some nutrients. Anyone else have this problem and maybe some solutions?

I get it. I remember once trying to eat some baked fish with lemon butter, and the flavor was fine, but the texture made me want to gag. It didn't make sense! I thought the butter would have been the gross part, but it was the fish itself. I just powered through the eating when I had to. I stopped wanting most of my fave meals. I just kept cycling through the small number of foods that I could tolerate.

I'm finding that I want fruit instead of junk food or actual meals. It's not the best for macros, but it's something at least.

I'm in my 5th week at 2.5mg. My injection was Wednesday, and I can hardly eat anything since. Nothing looks, smells, or is appetizing. I just force myself to eat my normal meals. I don't have any advice. Just know that you aren't alone.

Interestingly, I feel like all food is missing salt lately. It's like my taste buds died. And yeah, even when my stomach is rumbling, I don't want to eat a single thing. I walk into the kitchen, see all the options, and think...nope. Don't want it. Even stuff I bought and was excited about! It's really strange. Usually I just choke down a yogurt or a boiled egg while wishing I could enjoy food again.

The lack of 'food noise' is fantastic, but the fact that everything tastes like cardboard is not fun. I stopped making things at home for a little while because the smells and textures were too much. I started using a meal replacement service for a while. It was reliable and didn't have that overwhelming 'food' aroma that caused issues. Try cold foods too, those have been easier for me.

I understand some foods tasting weird. There's a cheese I used to eat daily that now tastes sour to me. I also need to eat foods that are crunchy or have a good texture. It seems to change daily, so I keep basic foods around that I can flavor however I need to. Using strong umami flavors helps entice me to eat, like sun-dried tomatoes. BTW – try those in a white bean dish!

I stick with fruit as much as possible because that's what I crave. I can also handle bread products and grains, so I'll often have a carb-based meal for supper, like a plain baked potato.

I had an aversion to food before I started this, especially meats. Now, I can only eat meat maybe once or twice a week. Sucks since I need to keep my protein intake up. Honestly, most foods are a turnoff to me most days. I'm eating whatever I can physically swallow, even if it's not the healthiest. It is what it is.

I've had issues eating since increasing my dose. I've been on this medication for almost a year and a half, and last summer was great because of all the amazing in-season fruits. Winter has been rough since I'm sick of my typical meals.

So, I got some foods I haven't had in ages, things that sounded tasty. It's not the best for carbs, but I barely eat anyway, so I won't overdo it. I'm having bran cereal, milk, and banana slices! I also ordered individual premade sides from the deli...I love cheese, peas, beans, etc. and these small servings are great.

Yesterday I ordered takeout from a local restaurant that serves comfort food like grandma used to make. I ordered a steak finger basket with extra gravy. One steak finger is plenty for me, so I have almost a week's worth. I got 1 cornbread, 1 biscuit, and 1 roll. Bless their hearts, they gave me extras that I could never finish.

I realized that I was just tired of eating the same foods.

Cold and room-temperature foods were way better than hot meals for me. Protein drinks, yogurt parfaits, and wraps got me through about six weeks until it improved a bit. What foods can you still tolerate?

This often changes over time, but for most people, it usually results in fewer cravings. I used to crave sweets. I wouldn't say I was hardcore, but I never skipped a candy bowl. Now, my wife is mad because I won't eat the treats she buys. Just remember that what you eat matters. Use this change to make better, healthier eating choices.

I am so with you right now. It's like my brain is divorced from my stomach. Like I should be hungry, but the thought of eating is just…bleh.

I never noticed how much 'food noise' was in my head until it stopped. Like thinking about food ALL the time, planning meals, feeling guilty about that extra snack. Now it's just…quiet. Anyone else?

YES! That quieting is major. I feel like I'm in control for the first time in ages.
