Anyone else stop drinking on Ozempic?

So, I kinda started this med with the hope it would curb my drinking. It was a nightly thing for ages, and I couldn't imagine quitting. Now, after a month at the lowest dose, I'm going up to .50. I've dropped about 13 pounds. Then, out of nowhere this week, I just... stopped wanting alcohol. Like a switch flipped, no cravings or anything. Amazing! My wife's floored. This stuff is truly something else.

That's wild! I didn't even know that was a potential effect when I started. Honestly, quitting booze probably did as much for my weight as the med itself. New habits and all that. I'd stay on this thing forever just for that!

Same thing happened here! The day I started was the day I quit. It's been over 2 months now, and I don't even think about it. Plus, I'm down 25+ pounds...

Ozempic stopping my binge drinking is the best thing that's ever happened to me.

I wish I tried it sooner.

I'm not totally sober, but I usually only have one, maybe two drinks now.

It's so freeing not worrying about overdoing it.

I'm an alcoholic. Used to drink a LOT of beer every day, starting early in the morning. Started Ozempic over a year and a half ago and haven't touched a drop since the first dose. Sober ever since (and almost 100 pounds lighter!). It killed the craving. I agree, it's a miracle.

It's amazing how it just wipes out the desire and even the taste for alcohol. I want my husband to get on this, obviously for his health, but this side effect would be a huge bonus!

I just joined this forum and have been reading a lot. This is a new one for me. Picking up my prescription this afternoon and injecting tomorrow morning. I'm 67 with an A1C of 7.3. I have to admit I'm nervous. Not thrilled about the shots, but more worried about the side effects I've been reading about. Anyone got tips on where to inject and preferences? Thanks in advance, and thanks for this forum, seems like a great place for support.

Ozempic is amazing! It quiets not only the food noise but other noise too. My doc actually told me some people quit smoking while on it because they lose the craving, so it makes sense for drinking too!

Down 60 pounds and my diabetes is totally under control. No more hunger, thirst, or constant bathroom trips... it's truly life-changing.

Yup, I've heard a bunch of stories about how this drug helps alcoholics. Honestly, it helped me quit drinking when my partner got sober earlier this year. I think these meds could really change addiction treatment.

I've actually quit smoking cigarettes after 20 years on them, and don't even want a drink anymore. Also down 150lbs. Ozempic has totally changed my life for the better! I don't care what anyone else thinks, I'm in recovery but I've been clean for three years before starting Ozempic. Congrats to everyone on your accomplishments!

For someone who spent 50-60 years jumping from diet to diet the reduction in food chatter makes all the difference for mental health. I stopped beating myself up constantly multiple times daily. From day one things shifted better decisions on food alcohol shopping all of it. I'm way less critical of other people too. For those maintaining at their target do you find the chatter returns once you stop? Are you staying on your dose at goal or did you taper off?

The alcohol reduction on Ozempic shares the same reward-pathway mechanism as food noise reduction - GLP-1 receptors in the reward centers affect drive toward rewarding substances broadly. The degree varies by person, but the pathway is why it extends to alcohol and other compulsive patterns for some.
