Ozempic and later pregnancy

Been on a certain ozempic amount and stopped around when pregnancy began, so not quite the recommended two months off beforehand. Curious whether anyone who used ozempic prior to pregnancy also dealt with prolonged nausea afterward. Currently mid-pregnancy and still getting hit hard whenever blood sugar dips even slightly, even while staying within a totally normal range. Genuinely unsure what's actually driving this.

So glad you asked! I was on Ozempic and lost 50 pounds when an unplanned pregnancy happened. Started back up around 2 months postpartum once nursing stopped, and following twelve months with some continued progress but rougher sides, I made the switch to Mounjaro last October.

Took noticeably more effort this time around, juggling a toddler, a newborn, and an aging dog nearing the end of her life. But I still had plenty of weight left to lose, plus wanted to pull my A1c down out of the 6-range into the 5s.

Haven't personally run into this on ozempic, but would suggest considering whether pregnancy's even remotely possible, if that applies to you biologically, and maybe taking a test, since that's a genuinely common early pregnancy symptom.

I can actually get pregnant so I never looked into that side of things. Had no clue you weren't supposed to conceive on Ozempic. How's the pregnancy going for you? Does it look like you'll be able to carry it to term? How are you doing otherwise?

Most people go through extended nausea during pregnancy regardless. Odds are this traces back to the pregnancy itself rather than the medication you stopped.

The drug's half-life is roughly a week, so past five weeks since quitting, it's essentially out of your system entirely.

Short version, stop taking these a few months ahead of trying to conceive, same general precaution as with most medications when it's an option, since long-term safety data just doesn't exist yet. We're really just at the beginning of figuring out whether it's safe, and it'll probably take a long while to nail down properly since no ethics board would ever greenlight a formal pregnancy trial. Realistically the answers will come from years of accidental exposures adding up across the population. Nothing alarming has surfaced so far, and current findings suggest early pregnancy exposure likely isn't a major concern, but that's absolutely something worth getting expert guidance on if pregnancy happens while still taking it, and no provider is going to advise staying on it through pregnancy until the data's far more solid. Given how many unplanned pregnancies have happened on this medication already, early pregnancy safety data will probably get sorted out faster than usual.

Was on ozempic for close to a year and then got pregnant. Told to stop right away once it was confirmed. Also on metformin and stayed on that one. Well into the second trimester now and baby's healthy so far. Took being at the highest amount for several months before regular ovulation showed up.
