GLP-1 Insurance Woes in '26?

My own BMI sits at 38 and my insurance still won't touch GLP-1 coverage. Might be worth asking about a prior authorization request though!

Getting coverage is genuinely rare, count yourself fortunate there. Beyond that, plenty of primary doctors just haven't kept up with the newer research on these medications and still cling to outdated attitudes, so they'll only prescribe for confirmed diabetes. Telehealth's a different story though, since qualifying is basically all it takes there because that's their entire specialty.

When I began this medication class my BMI sat near 40. Coverage denied it since diabetes wasn't part of my diagnosis. Plenty of online options run upward of $200 monthly, which adds up fast. My suggestion is checking with your regular doctor for a prescription instead, usually a simple process especially with some weight to lose, and it's considerably cheaper that route. I'm currently paying $275 for a three-month supply through my doctor.
