Has your period changed since starting the medication?

Hey everyone, just started mounjaro, currently on week two. So far the only side effect has been slight bloating on days with a later dinner. The period arrived right on schedule last week, four days after the first 2.5mg shot, exactly when expected. Still business as usual, but reading through the never-ending period threads here is starting to cause some worry.

Has anyone had a longer period right out of the gate, or had things start fine before turning rough after a few months in? Trying to mentally prepare if that ends up being the case here too. Thanks!

(For context: 42F, fairly regular cycle every four weeks, lasting six to eight days. Neither pcos nor endometriosis, painkillers used to be needed early on but that's eased up. No pregnancies, no contraception currently, only brief oral contraception use twice in the past.)

Dealing with PCOS/PMOS myself. Been on Mounjaro past three years and only shed around 20 pounds in that whole stretch. Nothing dramatic weight-wise. But for the first time ever, I can actually track my cycle. Been running on a consistent schedule since month one on the medication. Got an app tracking everything, and I land within a day or two of the predicted date every time. Inflammation dropped noticeably too. Mid-forties here, and I'm convinced Mounjaro triggered these cycle changes. Used to go months on end without a period at all. What's wild is my own doctor seemed genuinely stunned discussing this, especially given how little weight I'd actually lost.

hazel Okay, though a week into 2.5mg my period showed up, and 10 days after it ended it came back. Nothing like that ever occurred for me before. Mounjaro by itself clearly did something ahead of any real weight loss. Probably hormones. Changing the dose affects it too, and part of me fears that moving toward maintenance could make my cycle vanish again. We'll see.

Mine havent been long so far, but folks do seem to get irregular cycles, very long or heavier ones, once they start Mounjaro, because estrogen peaks after fat is lost. I only just began injecting and my period showed up halfway through week one, on the exact day it was due anyway. So im trying to work out if i should expect irregularity right away, what fraction of people here get hit, or whether theres some common pattern to it really...

Wish more people discussed this side effect! Hardly anything turned up when I began. Ask my doctor and she says Mounjaro fixed my period, ask me and it made things hell. At first it basically cancelled my bc pill, since Mounjaro holds things in the stomach longer and the pill never got absorbed. Nearly 15 years had passed since my last real period, and then it hit full blast. I had to ask my husband if I had said some thoughts out loud, since he never knew me off bc. Before, my periods meant heavy flow, terrible cramps and a short fuse. My OBGYN swapped my pill, which helped a bit, then at my annual visit I moved to the patch. She also said weight loss changes periods, since estrogen stored in fat cells gets released. The patch helps mood and cramps, but spotting continues.
