Losing a golf-ball of hair every wash - anyone found something that helps?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
49F here. I began Mounjaro in January at 100.5 kg (221 lbs) and I'm at 72.3 kg (159 lbs) now, which I'm thrilled about. The hair is another story. For a month now every wash and every brushing pulls out a clump about the size of a golf ball. People say this is normal on these meds and I get that it should pass, but it's still scary to watch it pile up in the drain.

So far I gave in to the ads that follow me around online and ordered a shampoo and conditioner set plus pumpkin seed supplements, crossing my fingers. Has anyone actually tried those? Did they do anything for you? And is there something else that really helped, whether it's a vitamin, a specific shampoo, more protein, or just waiting it out? Thank you in advance, I'd love to hear what worked.

Mine started around month three and hit its worst a month after that. My doctor checked ferritin and vitamin D, both were low, and once I fixed those the shedding slowed down. Worth asking for that blood work before you spend more on supplements.

I wouldn't expect much from the shampoo set. What helped me was getting protein back up to around 100 grams a day and being gentle with my hair, no tight ponytails and no heat. Most of the clumps stopped by month five.

It is scary when the drain fills up, but for me it was temporary. I lost the most between months three and five while the weight was dropping fast, and it evened out once I leveled off. Little baby hairs along my hairline showed up around month eight.

Wow, huge congratulations on that amazing weight loss — that’s such a fantastic milestone!

I went through exactly the same shedding. The most helpful things for me were bumping up my daily protein and asking my doctor to check ferritin, vitamin D and zinc. Once those levels were fixed, the slowdown was noticeable after about two months. Hope your new shampoo and pumpkin seed supplements work well for you! It does get better.

I took oral minoxidil. I shed a huge amount of hair from illness and then from weight loss (there wasn't much to start), and it was looking pretty bad. Gather it all in a twist and it's about pencil width. After nearly 5 months I finally see results, tons of new growth, and if I put my hair up I almost have a mullet with all the tiny hairs standing straight up lol. I knew it'd be slow but waiting for natural regrowth after three years of loss wasn't an option for me.
