Scale's moving again - weigh-in question...

Alright, quick update. Got down to around 333, but then a steroid shot for my back threw things off. Gained like 6 pounds in the following days, which was a bummer. Knew it was coming, but still. Anyway, my official weigh-in day is Tuesday. Last Tuesday I was at 335, so not too bad. Woke up Wednesday feeling different, and this morning the scale said 331.5! Almost 20 pounds in 8 weeks on 2.5, averaging around 2.5 lbs per week.

So, question for everyone: if you weigh yourself randomly and see a drop, do you log it right away, or wait for your official weigh-in day?

I actually weigh myself every single day and track it in one app. Then, I keep my measurements and a weekly weight (Mondays) in a different app. I like being able to see the daily trends, but also keep an eye on the bigger picture with the weekly weigh-ins.

And yeah, steroids are rough. I have to take them for autoimmune issues, and they always mess with my weight for about a week.

I'm a weekly weigher too! I've found that logging those random weigh-ins can be misleading. Sometimes the scale goes down mid-week, but then my official weigh-in is higher. So now I don't log it. It's more useful as a way to check my habits during the week, knowing that hydration and exercise can make a big difference.

I also know that daily weigh-ins can become obsessive for me, so I avoid that.

Basically, I wouldn't recommend logging it, but it doesn't hurt to use it as a quick check-in.

Edit: Just wanted to add, as someone who has taken steroids before, be gentle with yourself after the shot. The water retention and inflammation can be annoying.

I've weighed myself on random days before, but I only log the weight on my official weekly weigh-in day. This week, I weighed daily and got demotivated when the scale went up a pound or two. Then a couple days later, I lost even more than that. I think it can be demotivating and not really meaningful. I weigh weekly - in the morning before my shot - and I only log that weight.

Hey @O-O-Ozempic, totally get the frustration with the scale. I've been on this journey for a while, and stalled a few times! One thing that helped me was adding some strength training to my routine. It seems like upping the protein intake helps too. Worth a shot!

Just wanted to chime in on the plateau discussion. It's super common, and there are a few things you can tweak. Like @New_Pal mentioned, strength training is HUGE. Also, make sure you're recalculating your TDEE every 10 pounds or so, because your calorie needs will change as you lose weight. And be patient with yourself! A small treat now and then isn't going to ruin everything.

Wanted to add something for those experiencing a stall. Remember that weight loss isn't always linear. You might stall for weeks, even months. If you are already losing weight, try being patient and not so hard on yourself and focus on health.

Dropped to 1.5mg on a six-day rotation. The nausea has cleared up quite a bit, food flavor is still off but manageable. Hydration remains a struggle though at least protein consumption is happening again. Hit the scale and landed at 69.2kg - nearly 10kg shed in under a month.

The scale moving is one thing, but you look genuinely different. Most folks don't realize how much dropping inflammation changes everything physically. You're doing great, keep at it.

My Dexa lines up nicely with my 4-electrode Tanita. The InBody at my doctor's office matched recent Dexa results nearly perfect across 3 separate sessions. Got an 8-electrode Runstar that seems legit but reads about 4% high compared to everything else - still handy for monitoring shifts. Timing and water intake really matter. Down the road I'll get another Dexa at my target just to verify, but for now tracking tools are solid enough.

Gaining 7 pounds in one week? That's water, not fat. You'd need 24,500 extra calories for actual fat gain. Weight bounces, especially for women. Best thing: quit obsessing over daily numbers. I weighed myself constantly - now maybe weekly.

The week-plus stall before a whoosh is the pattern working correctly - the body retains water during fat loss and releases it in a batch. Waiting through the stall is the only mechanism.
