Reta or Tirz for Gut Issues?

For me, tirz slowed things down. Not a huge deal, but noticeable. Reta, on the other hand, made things move a bit TOO quickly, if you catch my drift. Sema was the absolute worst for constipation, in my opinion! Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Greetings from Germany!

I began my weight loss journey at the start of 2024, using a similar medication before switching to tirzepatide. 7.5 mg per week worked well. Around mid-year, I discovered retatrutide and decided to give it a try, with very positive results.

I began at 289 lbs (131 kg), with an initial goal of 220 lbs (100 kg). I eventually reached 207 lbs (94 kg). I am now figuring out the best maintenance dose, somewhere between 2.5 mg and 5 mg of retatrutide. I also tried a combo of 2.5 mg of one med plus 2.5 mg of retatrutide, but I'm still evaluating that. I think 5 mg of retatrutide alone is enough.

My health has improved a lot. My blood pressure is stable, and a dizziness issue is gone. I think it's because of the weight loss. I had some mild digestive issues (constipation), but I managed it with soaked prunes in my morning muesli. Works great!

Since January 2024, I've cut out alcohol completely. I used to enjoy a beer or wine with dinner, but I don't miss it. I'm eating healthier, with lots of veggies and protein. I go to the gym twice a week and stay active.

I think my lifestyle is balanced now. It was one of the best decisions of my life. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it. I want to share my experience to encourage others to stay committed and patient!

Guten Morgen! @Salad_Dude, I'm thinking about using Reta for maintenance. I've been on TZ for over two years and found your review really helpful.

The decreased cravings for alcohol are a plus and a reason I've stayed on TZ even after reaching my goal. I lived in Germany for nine years and picked up good habits like eating slower and walking in the woods. My doctor there told me to stop eating like an American and shop at the local markets. My health improved and I lost weight. Coming back to the states made my health decline. GLP-1s have helped me live that lifestyle again. Daily wine drinking was a bad habit I picked up there – cheap, but not good for me!

All the best to you on your journey to better health.

Reta gave me diarrhea for a bit, but it went away after a month or so. Tirz made me constipated, but I'm also on metformin so it evened out. I did get burps with Tirz, but that got better with time too. It really helped with cutting back on alcohol, which I appreciate. The worst part about Tirz was the fatigue – still dealing with it after 8 months.

Tirz was awful for me. I couldn’t get relief from constipation even with daily Miralax, and I actually have IBS-D normally! Reta is much easier on my system. Any issues I have are usually because I’m not drinking enough water, which is my fault.

I've been on Tirz for almost 7 months (down over 60lbs, currently on 8mg) and constipation has been my biggest issue. I manage it with fiber gummies and the occasional Ducolax chew if needed.

I decided to try stacking Reta a couple of weeks ago to boost weight loss, instead of increasing my Tirz dose. My first 1mg dose didn't cause any side effects or benefits - mainly wanted to start low to watch for increased heart rate (which didn't happen). The second 1mg dose was when my husband brought home fish he caught in Mexico, and we ate a ton of ceviche. I thought I had food poisoning because I had MAJOR diarrhea, all night and during the day. It lasted for days. Then, after my third 1.5mg dose, I realized it was the Reta! I stopped completely, but it took about 8 days for my gut to get back to normal. I'm now trying to decide if I want to start Reta again at 0.5mg and try a really slow titration to manage the stomach issues. Sorry for the overshare!

Wow, @half-of-me, that's quite the story! I can definitely relate to the unexpected GI issues. It's like playing Russian roulette with your bowels sometimes!

I saw someone on another forum mentioned that they literally had to start wearing diapers to work some days because they were so worried about accidents. 😂😭 It's good to know I'm not alone.

It's interesting how different everyone's experience is. I've seen some people say they're constipated, and others have the complete opposite problem! I guess it just shows how differently our bodies react.

I will say, for constipation, prunes are your friend. That said, I have seen people mention osmotic laxatives, such as milk of magnesia, can be quite helpful for GLP-1 induced constipation. They help to pull water in.

Same here. Got to 1.25 Cagri plus 5 mg tirzepatide. Not getting the day five or six really-hungry times keeps me on it. No bad effects.

At 5mg Tirz plus 1.25 Cagri and maintaining - the Cagri might help with the GI effects from Tirz, and I take fiber too. Really happy with this stack and my labs look great.

That info is really helpful. I get palpitations sometimes - had them before tirz, during, and off it too. With my heart history I was just curious. Fine continuing and raising as needed but good to know. 80 pounds is fantastic, congrats!

Every five or seven days? If seven, move to five to match the half-life. Already at five? Increase to 17.5mg. People handle 20mg every five with no issues.

I stopped tirz about two months ago because I had 24 hours of planes and airports and staying with strangers. Didn't want stomach issues to be a problem. Been home a few weeks now and haven't restarted because I'm maintaining and actually lost 3 lbs while I was gone. I know this isn't long term but right now I'm good with it.
