Keto/Low carb or GLP-1?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
Curious about something. Plenty of channels and dietitians or doctors online insist the only real way to treat or reverse metabolic syndrome and prediabetes is going low carb, full stop. Thoughts on that stance now that GLP medications exist, especially given plenty of people, regardless of effort, simply can't sustain that kind of dietary shift long term? Is the low carb requirement still necessary alongside these medications? Haven't seen this really addressed anywhere yet, curious what people think.

GLP-1 receptor agonists have actually been in widespread clinical use since the mid 2000s, over two decades of real world data by now. Curious which doctors are still raising concerns about long term effects.

From what I've seen, GLP-1s are nothing like those old obesity drugs that fizzled out. Keeps delivering long term. Three years in now and haven't regained a pound. Congrats to you!

If keto's sustainable for you, go for it, even full carnivore honestly. But that's genuinely hard to stick with, and if someone's dealing with serious obesity or heavy visceral fat, a GLP-1 beats the alternative.

Of all diets, keto is likely the poorest choice on a GLP-1, given what you described. A balanced diet with lots of fiber and protein is enough. I have many food sensitivities so I stick to the Autoimmune Paleo diet, cutting most grains and dairy, which means lots of vegetables plus lean meat and no processed food. I've been going slow and steady for nearly a year, down 36 lbs with another 20-30 ahead. I watch what goes on my plate to be sure nutrients are covered, and I take vitamins too. Slow pace so I don't regain at every plateau. I go hypoglycemic if I skip meals, so I carry snacks like dried fruit and jerky when I won't be home in time. Hope that's useful, and go easy on the dieting!
