Doctor says I qualify for a GLP-1 but still won't prescribe it

I'm 25, BMI around 30.7, and my gynecologist has me on metformin for irregular periods and PCOS symptoms. I have tried counting calories, a bunch of diets, workouts, even swimming, over and over. Never lost anything, only gained. So I saw an endocrinologist. He went through my reports and said nothing stops me from taking a GLP-1, I'm eligible for either one. We also talked about muscle loss and he wants me building muscle first, mine is 26.3 kg against 40 kg of fat.

Then he told me I remind him of his little sister and that I should see a dietitian and train for two months before anything else. When I asked if he'd write the script if I insisted, he said no. If I'm eligible, what exactly is he holding back? Is that just how he treats young patients? I'm in a new city now. Should I do the two months he wants, or find another endocrinologist for a second opinion? Anyone been through this? I'm honestly worn out.

Two months with a dietitian and real strength training isn't a bad deal if you actually do it, and you can still book another endocrinologist for a second opinion. A new city means a short wait, not two months. I'd bring the same lab reports and ask him plainly what would make him say yes.

He isn't refusing so much as setting a condition. Ask him to write down what result after the two months would make him prescribe, so the plan isn't open-ended. If he won't give you a number, that is your cue to look for a different specialist.

My MJ start included a DEXA scan, and the clinician (an ex chiro, for what it is worth) said similar things. He claimed he scanned hundreds of MJ patients, and that losing muscle is unavoidable, so I should just do Zone 2 cardio, drop weight fast, accept that half or more is muscle, and lift later. My GP and endocrinologist strongly disagreed. Both pushed resistance training and protein to hold muscle, which also keeps metabolism going. I added weights recently and feel much better. Friends on GLP1s lost lots of lean mass and will regret it. I would seek another opinion.
