Stuck at the same weight for months - is it time to stop?

Hong Kong Yanpep International
I dropped 95 kg down to 70 kg over roughly twelve months, then hit a wall in June and the scale has refused to move, and that's with my dose raised to 7.5 mg. Studies talk about a 20 to 25 percent drop as typical and I'm right at 25, so maybe this is where I end up. My goal was 60 to 65 kg and I'm not training, so I doubt I'll get there.

My last shot from the current pen is Friday. Do I order one more pen, a 15 mg one, and click it lower to a 7.5 mg dose? I did that before with a 10 mg pen but it runs out fast at that dose. Or do I simply stop? Appetite control has slipped too. It was great at 2.5 and 3.33 mg, but since I got to 7 mg I feel hungrier again. I went up in small steps hoping it would kick back in and it hasn't. I'm thinking about dropping back so the eventual exit is gentler. Food wise it's about 1,300 kcal on a normal day, 1,700 if I hit a burger place. Since March it has been 2 kg a month at best. What would you do?

You've got the wrong idea here. Lift weights, since more muscle means more calories burned at rest, and Mounjaro is currently eating into your muscle, which you can stop. Lowering the dose won't help when a higher one isn't helping. Your appetite isn't controlled at 7.5, so go up to 10 next, not down. Stopping means sliding back. For most people Mounjaro is lifelong if they want to keep the results, and even the few who taper off successfully regain some, despite lifestyle changes (and you don't seem to have made any).

It sounds like youre a super responder who would have done well staying on 2.5mg the last 3 months. A step back in dose plus more food would be my suggestion, since eating so little is bad for long term health and can wreck your metabolism. Recalibrating the weight set point takes years. While loss continues, the advice is: dont go up. A quarter of my body weight is gone, all on Mounjaro at low doses, mostly 2.5mg and 5mg, going to 7.5mg only after stalling 6+ weeks, then straight back to 5mg. Also eat more, to protect your metabolism and set point. Aim for 30g fibre daily and more protein and nutrients. The target is 1.6g protein per kg bodyweight on a GLP1. At 76kg now my daily targets are 120g protein, 30g fibre and 1500-2000 calories.

Bottom line: mounjaro doesn't make you gain or lose, it changes your appetite. So I'd stay with the smaller dose while tracking calories to stay within maintenance. Take me: I'd gladly eat more, my dose isn't so high that I've lost all desire to eat, just enough that I never feel starving. I skip sugar and refined carbs completely, aim for high protein, and wear ten slim jelly bracelets on one wrist, 150 calories apiece. When I eat something, I enter it into an app that says how many bracelets to shift to my other wrist. Once they've all moved, I'm done eating for the day.

You can always request a higher dose, but some self control helps too. Mounjaro makes eating a lot harder, not impossible. Snack urges still show up, you just feel full sooner. Feeling hungry when you truly are hungry is normal. I assume you ate very heavily before starting? Depending on your old habits, you may indeed need a higher dose. Even 1000cal is hard for me on 5mg lol.
