Are they being kept frozen, as they should be? And is the one he's using fully thawed? Move it to the fridge a day before using. Then, pull back the plunger, push it to the right dose 'til a drop forms, then inject.

It's always a good idea to draw air into the syringe first (equal to the dose), then inject that air into the vial before drawing the medication. This equalizes pressure.
