Stats: Starting weight 287 lbs, current 186 lbs, goal around 150-155 lbs. I'm a 63-year-old woman, 5'4".
It's been a slow and steady journey of nearly 4 years.
I've been on the heavier side my whole life. Even with regular exercise, I couldn't get under 160. Life can be challenging. My husband's passing about 9 years ago was a huge blow. I really struggled with emotional eating, and I gained a lot of weight, eventually reaching 287lb. I became very isolated.
It wasn't until my routine checkup that I found out I was pre-diabetic. I had to make changes for my teenage children. That was back in July '21.
Phase 1 - I really embraced low-carb eating and time-restricted eating. It was hard work, but I saw good results. I lost about 65 pounds in a year. My blood sugar levels came back into a healthy range.
Phase 2 - I started dating again and fell in love. I didn't want to let sadness run my life. However, dating and eating out frequently caused a plateau, and I put some weight back on. For about 2 years, I stayed between 220-230lbs.
Phase 3 - My blood sugar started to creep up again, so my doctor suggested Ozempic. That jump-started the second half of my weight loss. I began Ozempic around mid-December 2024 at 227lbs. Today, about five and a half months later, I've lost just over 40 pounds since starting Ozempic. I'm incredibly grateful. I find myself eating similarly to when I was doing low-carb and fasting. Now it feels much easier. No stressful cravings!
I know that being over 60 makes losing weight more difficult. And hello, loose skin and wrinkles! I'm proud of my progress and wanted to share with people who understand the journey. There have been some tough times, but I'm feeling optimistic. I'm not finished yet (about 30 more pounds to go). I'll share my before/after pics when I meet my goal, wrinkles and all!
Thanks for listening!
