5 Years on GLP-1s?!

It's been half a decade since I started this journey (my last update was maybe two years ago before my body contouring).

Here are my details... I started around 265lbs, and now I'm hanging around 132lbs, I stand 5'3, and I'm in my late 30s. It's been two years since my tummy tuck, breast reduction, and reshaping, and I'm around 5 pounds less than when I had the surgery.

I'm still injecting myself weekly (I switched over to Zepbound about 6 months ago) and I plan to stay on this medication indefinitely. I see a lot of new people joining and posting about starting, and it can feel a little overwhelming, especially in the beginning when you are dealing with the initial side effects, or hitting a plateau. Just keep at it (but definitely talk to your doc if you can't manage the side effects).

I'm happy to take questions. I'm an early adopter (I joke that I had that 'sunken face' look before it was a 'thing') and in the beginning, I kept this to myself. But now I've realized that I shouldn't be ashamed. I should be proud of my hard work during this process (the meds help, sure... you still have to put in the effort).

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing! That's quite the update. Just a quick reminder to everyone about the rules: no discussing or offering to buy/sell non-approved versions of these meds.

Awesome! I've heard people talk about stopping the meds, but honestly, I don't think I ever want to. I still enjoy eating, but I can control portions without constantly being hungry. It's so freeing to eat normally without obsessing.

Have you chatted with your doctor about staying on it long-term? Are there any long-term drawbacks besides cost?

Wow, what an incredible story! The results are amazing, and I feel the same way. You're such an inspiration! Congratulations!

I've been on it for a year and a half and I'm planning to stay on it forever. I dropped 30ish pounds and have been stuck for half a year. I have about 20 more to lose. This isn't a sprint, it's a marathon, and I feel great.

Keep up the great work! You look amazing!

I'm very interested in the skin removal surgery. Did your health insurance cover it? How difficult was the recovery? How noticeable are the scars? Do you have any regrets about getting it done? Congrats on your weight loss!

I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get it covered -- documented weight loss, rashes, etc. Recovery was tough, honestly. I had a hard time standing up straight for a while. The scars are there, but they've faded a lot. No regrets at all!

I have patients on these meds whose A1c went from 8 to 5.9 in a few months. They've been able to reduce or eliminate other diabetes meds too. The impact on overall health is huge, not just weight loss.

That's amazing! It's good to hear about the other health benefits beyond just losing pounds.

I agree. Being on a GLP-1 is a lifestyle choice now, and I am okay with that. Someone asked me, why would you stay on it? I want to ask them, would you rather see THIS photo, or THAT photo? It is an investment in my health.

Using them now and still breathing. No issues so far. Yeah, you're right about making things worse, but I've got a box of 100 and I'm committed. The 13mm ones are way easier than 4mm—some blends won't even push through a 4mm. Just need a little BAC to clear the holdback.
