6 Months on Semaglutide - Maintaining?

Started at 211, now floating around 163-165. My doc wanted me at 160, then revised to 150. Said between 140-150 would be awesome as long as I'm not struggling too hard. She's also cool with 150-160. But she didn't give me a solid plan for keeping it off, just said keep at it as before. I think the medication deserves most of the credit for my almost 50 pound transformation, but perhaps I'm underselling my own effort. I've heard slow and steady dose reduction is better than stopping abruptly. I'm curious how everyone else is handling maintenance. Planning on long-term or lifetime use?

Congrats on your amazing journey! I'm in a similar boat. Started in August of last year at 193, hit my first goal of 155, then went to 145. I actually dipped below 145 for a bit, but felt too tired and didn't like how my body looked. Now I'm maintaining between 145 and 150 with a maintenance dose of sema roughly every 10 days. Started this maintenance thing in May, so 6 months now. I was on 2mg/week during active loss, now I'm at 1.5mg for maintenance. I'm a bit hungrier now, but manageable. If it's been over a week and I'm really hungry, I'll take my dose early. I plan to stay on this or something similar forever. The longer studies suggest people regain weight when they stop. Plus, blood work worsens. I want to keep my heart healthy since heart disease runs in my family. I worked too hard to get here, and I know I couldn't have done it without medication. Why pretend that the 'diet and exercise' that didn't work before will magically maintain it now?

I'm planning to be on it for life. I hit the gym almost every day. I prioritize protein, fruits, and veggies. And I enjoy whatever I want, but I don't go overboard. I might lower my dose occasionally or increase it as needed. I'm not against weaning off if that's what it takes to keep it effective, or so I've heard. I respect this 'miracle medicine' and hope politicians don't screw it up. And congrats on your progress.

I'm confused - at 165 isn't your BMI still in the obese range? Why doesn't your doctor want you to weigh less to lower health risks? I know BMI isn't the whole picture, but 165 seems high for someone who is only 5'2". No hate, just genuinely curious how 165 is considered healthy for you?

Congrats! You look amazing. I just took my second 0.25 shot and don't feel a thing, maybe a tiny bit less hungry. I know I need patience. Did you lose weight quickly? I've struggled since I was 18, and I'm 49 now. If it works for me, I'll stay on maintenance as long as I can. Seeing your results gives me hope. 🥰😘

You look awesome. You even still maintained a 🍑! I'm jealous!

For maintenance, my doc filled my prescription (Wegovy) for a year. He's letting me control how maintenance goes. Once I hit my goal, I'll slowly space out injections and watch my weight. I don't see myself going off semaglutide completely.

Good luck with everything!

You look so great! I'm pretty happy with my body around 150-160 (I'm 5'4), and that's about my lowest as an adult. I gained weight from mental health meds, and I'm hoping to start sema soon. Your body reminds me of my own, so it's awesome seeing your progress. I'm hoping to get back there!

I'm down from an XXL to a large, about 30 lbs lost, and super happy. But it's too expensive now, so I'm looking for more affordable alternatives. I was paying $100-$175 per dose. I hope I find a legit online option! You're looking great!

I know, right? The cost is a killer. I'm hoping insurance will cover it long-term, but who knows. I'm also a little worried about side effects down the road, but the benefits are just too good right now to consider stopping.

That's exactly how I feel. I think the long-term benefits outweigh the potential risks, especially given my family history. Plus, I'm getting regular checkups and blood work to monitor things.

I'm curious about which GLP-1 is generally considered gentlest, especially for my mom. She's over 60 and has a history of acid reflux. I want to make sure she starts with something that's less likely to cause issues.

I've heard Mounjaro/Zepbound have fewer side effects for some, but those are tirzepatide, not semaglutide. Definitely talk to her doctor. Acid reflux could be aggravated by GLP-1s, so starting at a low dose is key.

It's interesting how these meds change people's perception. It challenges the idea that obesity is a personal failing or lack of willpower. People see those on GLP-1s eating normally, realizing it's often a treatable health issue. It's like GLP-1s aren’t cheating - they’re treating.
