A year of weight loss shots!

Okay, so it's been a full year since I jumped on the weight loss injection bandwagon, and wow, what a ride! Thought I'd share my experience for anyone just getting started.

Stats:
  • Starting weight: 220 lbs
  • Current weight: 165 lbs
  • Total weight gone: 55 lbs
  • Only around 5 lbs until I hit a 'normal' BMI – I know it's not perfect, just a target.

The medication:
I was on Ozempic from October to April. Wanted to love it, but the nausea and constant indigestion made me miserable. Switched to Mounjaro, and the side effects are way less intense.

Unexpected perks:
Both meds seemed to chill out my anxiety and my ADD a bit—less mental clutter. I also had some wild dreams! Just my experience, not sure if it's universal.

Oh, and my libido went through the roof — that's all I'm saying!

Things I've learned:
  • You still gotta put in the effort. No injection can beat a bad diet.
  • Therapy rocks! Seriously. If you don't deal with your emotional eating issues, you'll just find new ways to cope. Less food obsession has given me a chance to work through some tough stuff related to relationships.
  • Being 'thinner' doesn't magically fix body image issues. You can still find things to criticize.
  • You'll suddenly have all this free time now that you aren't eating or drinking all the time—find a hobby.
  • Clothes shopping is fun but also kinda strange. I don't even know what my style is anymore. My old closet was all about hiding.
  • Loose skin happens. When you drop a lot of weight, things... sag. My double chin now looks kinda funny, but oh well!
  • Be nice to yourself. The woman who struggled for years is the same one who decided to make a change — she deserves kindness.
Biggest takeaway:
You can't bully yourself into change. Progress came when I started from a place of self-love, not punishment.

So much of this whole adventure has been about figuring out who I am. It’s not a miracle fix. Some days still suck. Your brain needs time to adjust to your new body.

(And yes, sorry for the practical bra in my before/after pic — I wore the same outfit for comparison purposes!)

Be kind to yourself, whether you take the shot or not. You are worthy. 💪❤️

The shopping is the best part! I needed a brand new summer wardrobe and now I'm getting ready for winter. At 78 years old! It's a lot of fun. I have more wrinkles now but I'd take that over extra pounds. It's been a little over a year for me. I started around 200 and now I'm at 140. I've had two knee replacements and shoulder surgery. I feel so much better now. Every day feels like a gift.

You look amazing and I agree with everything you said.

I love this post!

I had issues with Ozempic so I switched to Mounjaro about two months ago. I ALSO feel like my ADHD is way better now. I haven't needed my meds in over a month, which is crazy.

I've also noticed my sex drive is higher and it was already good before, haha.

My clothes are all about hiding too.

Thanks for sharing and I hope I have the same success a year from now!

I'm also working through everything in therapy.

Congrats on your progress! I love your insights, especially as someone with ADD. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the warning about 'new ways to fill the void'—not many people mention that. I definitely did that (hello, makeup and tons of lipsticks!) but I'm in therapy now and dealing with it.

I'm at 163 pounds too (started at 190, six months ago) but I still have a noticeable tummy. It's smaller than before, but it still sticks out. I've been concerned about that. I lost my double chin and inches overall (pic here: ) but my stomach is still tire-shaped. Any tips for making it better? Were you consistent with core exercises/strength training; is that what helped?

Your description of your closet is so accurate.

I'm 70, and I've been at my starting weight for more than 25 years. I don't know how to dress a thinner 70-year-old body. I'm working with my therapist to figure it out.

If you don't mind me asking, how did your bust size change (you mentioned using the same bra for the picture—but have you gone down in size overall)? I started around your weight and am seeing similar progress, and I'm really hoping some of the weight loss will come from my chest area 😅 I'm generally petite (except for the extra weight), but all the women in my family are busty, so I'm hoping when the weight comes off, I can expect some relief!

Hey True-Happy! Thanks for all the kind words. In terms of the tummy situation honestly, I'm still working on it! I do try to be consistent with strength training, but I'm no athlete. I think a lot of it is just genetics and where my body likes to store fat. I'm trying to focus on being strong and healthy, rather than aiming for some impossible ideal.

I keep seeing myself in reflections and thinking, wow, who's that, then realizing it's me! It's pretty amazing. Congrats on the success!

Interesting about the ADD thing, I've heard similar reports... could be something to it.

That's so great! Taking group selfies is not always fun but it seems like you had a great moment! I feel like I'm still a ways away from my goal weight, but it's inspiring to hear about your success!

Good question! Yes, I've definitely gone down a cup size or two. The bra still fits, but it's looser, if that makes sense! Hoping things continue to shrink in that department, haha.
