Am I too skinny now? + a fun NSV

I keep getting comments from my family and work people saying I'm disappearing. Like I'm gonna float away or something! My clothes are HUGE on me. I just bought some new ones in small and medium, but I like stuff a bit loose! I know they probably mean well deep down, but NO ONE had anything nice to say when I was bigger. Ugh. Too big, too small. You can't make anyone happy. I'm wondering if some of it is just plain jealousy. I'm lifting weights 3 times a week, walking a few miles like 5-6 days a week. I'm also doing a bunch of stuff I enjoy (playing in an orchestra, taking ballet, reading with my book club). I have so much energy and feel better than ever! Just leave me alone with the comments, I'm doing great over here!

NSV: We were cleaning out our attic, and I found a box with my senior prom dress from high school! I decided to give it a try. IT STILL FITS!! 🎉🎉🎉 I'll see if I can add a picture later 🤣

138 pounds at 5'4" is NOT too thin. Your friends and family just need some time to adjust to the new you. Next time someone says something, smile and say, "Thanks! I've been working really hard!" Act like it's a compliment. They'll eventually stop when they get used to it.

You look fantastic! How long did it take you to get there? I'm 5'3" and started at 218, and I've just started on semaglutide. You're a real inspiration!

I know how you feel. A neighbor just told me I was "fading away." Should I take that as a compliment??? 😆

Congrats on your success, by the way! You look great! I think I'll go dig out my old prom dress and see if it still fits!

Your coworkers should never be commenting on your body. Screw 'em. I think you look great. People get weird when you don't fit the little box they put you in, and then they try to make it your problem when it's really theirs.

Hi,

Our stats are very similar.

Ignore the rude comments; you look amazing.

I feel like it takes people forever to adjust to the new me. I'm so over having every conversation turn into a discussion about how much I weigh or how I "need to stop before I get too skinny." I totally get it.

Congrats on being active! You're doing everything right!

Try to think of their comments as well-intentioned. Even though our culture is obsessed with being thin, our brains are wired to believe serious weight loss is a sign of sickness and near death. So even when you know someone is losing weight from healthy habits and exercise, something in the back of their mind will always go, “Oh no! This is bad. This person is sick!” Especially in social situations, when people feel like they have to say something, their brains are fighting each other to come up with something nice.

You're not too skinny AT ALL!! But your clothes are maybe a little too big, which might be part of why people are saying stuff.

You look happy and healthy, especially in that prom dress! You go!

Over 70% of adults in the US are considered overweight, and close to half are obese. I think we're so used to seeing overweight people that we've forgotten what a healthy weight actually looks like.

You look great and healthy!

Someone in another thread said it best: people are comparing you to the bigger you. They're not used to seeing you smaller, so they say things without realizing how it sounds. I get the same comments from some of my family sometimes, and I have to remind them that they're comparing me to the old me. I've lost almost 100 pounds, but I'm still technically obese. I still have like 30-40 to go. When I say that, they're like, "Omg, you're going to disappear!" But it's because they're comparing me to how I was before, not to what a healthy weight actually is.

I love seeing these posts! It gives me motivation. I have been on sema for a year and I've dropped around 115 pounds! I just reached all my objectives and it's amazing

I'm curious about this too! How long did it take everyone to see results? I've been on it for like 2 months and I've only lost a few pounds.

It's so important for people to acknowledge the mental and physical health benefits of losing weight. It should be a valid reason for medication, and accessible to everyone. Good work everyone!

That's a really good point! I never thought about it that way, but it makes sense. It's like our brains are still living in caveman times, LOL.
