Anyone else feel alone on their weight loss journey?

Hey everyone! I'm Ashley. I've struggled with my weight my whole life. Always been a bigger person. I'm celebrating one month on semaglutide today and I'm down 16 pounds!

I remember when I was 22, I had a very physically demanding job and got down to 120. I was in the best shape of my life then. But I gained it all back plus more within a year. I swear I've tried every diet under the sun.

I had to practically beg my doctor to prescribe me something when I was around 175 because I was gaining so fast. I was doing everything right! I gained weight ON the medication and she didn't believe my food logs and took me off it. I eventually reached 235.

I've tried everything, all the tests, but doctors say I'm fine except for being prediabetic. Now I finally found a doctor who listened and thinks there might be a medical reason. So, I got approved for semaglutide, and so far, so good.

It's changing my relationship with food. I never had a huge appetite, but this quiets any cravings. It's changing how much I eat at once. I get full after a handful of food, like Thanksgiving full! I'm snacking on fruit, cheese, and veggies, and eating two smaller meals instead of one big one. It's made a huge difference.

Most of my friends don't agree with this medication, so I don't talk about it much. I just wanted to share with people who understand. Thanks for listening!

It's so weird how people are OK with semaglutide for diabetes, but not for preventing diabetes by losing weight! Suddenly it's "cheating" and full of "health risks!" No one bats an eye when it's for diabetes.

This is awesome! I've always been overweight. I've been on semaglutide for 3 months, but I've only lost like 8 pounds. My doctor said it doesn't work for 2% of people. I hope I'm not in that group!

Seeing your progress gives me hope! Good for you!

Good for you! It's also helping me change how I relate to food. I'm trying to build healthy habits for the future when I'm no longer taking it. I know what you mean about negative opinions. I'm only telling my closest friends, and if anyone else asks, I'll just say I ate less and exercised more. It's really none of their business!

Congratulations! It's great you advocated for yourself.

I'm curious, what are those black things in the picture? Are they for chafing? I have that problem too.

For those who are new to semaglutide: be prepared for some side effects! Some people don't experience any, but others might get them on day two or three. But it usually gets better after the first week. Don't be discouraged!

Someone on another forum said this, and it really stuck with me: treat semaglutide like a tool. It's there to help you make changes, but you still have to actively build healthy habits. The meds reduce food noise and hunger, but you still get to choose what you eat.

Move around more. Do you know your RMR? Track what you're eating, especially protein. Might be worth getting some labs done to rule out other things going on. Sounds like you're burning what you take in, so a bigger deficit might be needed.
