Anyone else get grossed out by food on sema?

Has anyone else felt totally disgusted by food, especially healthy stuff, after like, a trimester on semaglutide? The texture of certain foods makes me wanna hurl. It's mostly with soft foods. Now, practically everything is nasty except for garbage food, which sucks. Only one other person I know has gone through this. What about you guys?

EDIT: Doing my shot every two weeks instead of once a week seems to have helped a little with the aversions.

I just cut an avocado in half, sliced it up, plated it, then couldn't bring myself to even taste it. Just thinking about it is making my stomach turn a bit. So strange!

Same here. I'm around 10 weeks in and not craving or enjoying the nutritious stuff I normally eat. Savory dishes, chicken, cheeses, and salads now make me feel sick. Now, I just want simple carbs. Really odd, and I haven't had any stomach issues either. 🤷‍♀️

I've always enjoyed cooking and browsing through recipes. For years, I've prepped nutritious meals each week. But ever since starting on a pretty low dose about a month ago, I don't want to cook or even open a cookbook. Yesterday I just ate a handful of potato chips for lunch. Any healthy foods are now so unappealing.

I totally get food aversions, even before starting semaglutide. Sometimes the idea of eating yogurt turns me off (and I've been eating it for over half a century and enjoying it). There's no predicting it. A food I love can become a big fat NOPE overnight.

Like some others, when this happens, I grab a protein shake or bar. I ate a lot of comfort foods in the beginning, like mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice.

I suggest checking out that Glp1meals sub for food ideas. The moderator gets it. She has a meal planner and cookbook, but also shares her recipes.

I began in November, and once I reached 0.5, my tastes became really limited. My available foods have been slowly increasing, but it's been super slow. Smell and texture are huge factors in what I can't eat. I find that easily digestible foods that aren't rich, oily, or fatty are better for me, so I stick to those. Protein shakes have been a staple, and things with little to no smell seem to be easier on my stomach.

I'm three weeks in. I'm comparing this to early pregnancy. I don't want to eat or even think about food. It makes me queasy. But I am craving ketchup. Especially ketchup with protein, like steak or eggs. I never would have thought of that before. I never ruin steak with ketchup. But it's the only thing that sounds good. I used to eat salads every day, but now I don't want lettuce or tomato near my food. I love fruit and vegetables, but I don't want them at all. I also don't want coffee or beer. It's all very strange. And I'm definitely not pregnant.

Just thinking about food makes me nauseous. All food. I do like water, though.

I might ask my doctor to lower my dose. It took three months to shed around five pounds, and now I've dropped five pounds in A WEEK. That's too fast, I think.

Yup! Texture issues are real. Soft foods were a no-go for a while. For others, it's yogurt, oatmeal, just mushy stuff in general.

Go for cold or crunchy things. Frozen grapes, rice cakes, ice-cold protein shakes. Something about the texture and temperature makes it easier to eat when everything else sounds bad.

It does get better, but the first few months can be difficult.

I've been taking it for a couple of years. It is definitely a thing. I like small servings of flavorful food.

Yes! I had to spit out some chicken last night and a hot dog today because the texture and flavor were repulsive. I also can't do any protein supplements, toothpaste, or anything with sucralose. I've also become sensitive (itchy) to stivia, so I cannot tolerate most protein supplements.

Update: So I dropped down to 0.25mg after talking with my doc, and food noise is coming back already. I feel like I am constantly thinking about food this week! It's such a change from the last few weeks where I barely thought about it. Anyone else experience food noise returning on a lower dose?

I can relate,

Yep, the starting doses are low on purpose. The 0.25mg and 0.5mg are just to get you used to the med. Most people see the best results at 1.0mg or higher. It's also possible your body is getting used to the dose and you need to titrate up. You're supposed to stay on each dose for at least a month to avoid bad side effects.

Does stress make food more appealing again for anyone else? Lately, work has been insane, and it's like my meds aren't working as well. I'm getting those old cravings back. Anyone else notice stress bringing food noise back?

Yes!

Stress definitely affects how well GLP-1s work. When cortisol goes up, it can counteract the medication's effects. Ashwagandha is great for managing cortisol. Some people also take adaptogen blends that include stuff like rhodiola and holy basil for stress. Also, magnesium glycinate before bed can help if stress is messing with your sleep.

CICO is correct for explaining results after the fact but not that useful for actually losing weight. never needed to know what a calorie was to figure out eating less = weight loss, that's obvious. problem is CICO makes people think food choice doesn't matter when it absolutely does.
