Bad thoughts on Ozempic?

So, I bumped my Ozempic dose up to 2mg. I've been on a lower dose for over a year with zero issues, but my A1c wasn't great, so my doctor wanted to increase it. I've had a rough year, and things have been stressful. I'm on Effexor and Buspirone for about 15 years now. I don't usually have these extreme thoughts, but I do deal with anxiety and depression. I saw my psychiatrist, and we added Wellbutrin. Has anyone else had this with dose increases?

I'm doing better now, my thoughts are more balanced since my new meds. Saw this article and wanted your thoughts:

Just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through that, but happy you're still here. Good you're talking to your doctor.

I'm no doctor, but I'd suggest Vitamin D. A lot of people with depression are low in it. Ozempic might indirectly cause deficiencies too. It's not a cure, but it could help.

I'm having something similar happen! 0.25 was fine, a few minor side effects. Upped it to 0.50 like they suggested, and it amplified every bad feeling. It was a real shock, I'm thinking about backing off. Talking to your doctor is def the right move. Take care!

I think there might be something to it. I've been there. I'm doing better these days. I was on a compounded Semaglutide for a month and a half. I went up a dose in January and fell apart. I thought about seeking help and starting meds. But things got better. I also quit vaping then. I was diagnosed with OCD 2 decades ago (and probably have ADHD, symptoms in women weren't recognized then). Meds didn't really work for me, CBT was way better. I don't have a degree in science, but I think GLP-1s change your brain...specifically the reward system with dopamine release. I eat well, exercise, and started knitting. I traded my vape for hard mints, and would dance in my apartment with my dog. It helped. Glad you're doing better. It's good to know someone else is going through this too.

I'm on Contrave to lose weight, it's buspirone and naltrexone together.

They said suicidal thoughts are a risk.
Maybe it's your Buspirone? Talk to your doc.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm feeling much better now that I've adjusted my meds. I really appreciate the support! In_The_Making, it's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this. It's easy to feel like you're losing your mind when you have those thoughts.

I am down about 45 pounds, and I get what y'all are saying about body image issues. It's weird. I know my clothes are looser, but I still see the same shape in the mirror. Hopefully, it fades in time.

That's so great to hear! It's wild how much these meds can affect your mood. I always thought it was just about appetite and blood sugar. Live and learn!

Yo, I posted a progress pic and some people were straight up mean. Talking about my looks, lip filler (which I regret!). I did it for my health and scoliosis, looking better was just a plus. Let's keep it positive, people.

Screw 'em! If you feel good, that's all that matters. Happy, healthy, and sane should be the goals. If you're hitting those, who cares what anyone else thinks?

First two months on the lower dose went really well, lost a lot. Just started 1mg this week—hit me pretty hard those first couple days but it's leveling out. As long as I don't overeat, which honestly I don't want to, feels fine. How long did you stay at each step before moving up?

Started at 2mg a few months back and moved up to 4mg where I've stayed. Everyone's different but I'd say stick with the lowest dose that actually works for you. Going too fast can leave you with loose skin down the line, so be patient with your body.

Bupropion and GLP-1 combination is well-tolerated for most people, and the dose-increase concern you're describing often comes from the drug interaction with Effexor at higher levels rather than the Ozempic itself - the psychiatrist adding Wellbutrin is actually addressing both the mood piece and the compulsive eating component simultaneously.
