Booze on GLP-1s: A Cautionary Tale

Seriously regretting my decisions from last night. I wish I could go back and just skip the drinks. I've been sick as a dog, throwing up constantly since last night, and my stomach is in knots. The alcohol hit me WAY harder than usual. Learn from my mistakes, it's not worth it!

Interesting. Everyone really does react differently. I've not experienced any changes in my tolerance for alcohol. I can have my usual cocktails without issue.

I think it's all about moderation. I had a beer earlier. I know my limit is like, two drinks max. I only have one a week. Gotta listen to your body!

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time, TheFullFeeling. It definitely sounds awful, but it's important to remember that not everyone will experience issues with alcohol while taking these medications. Side effects vary widely. I would advise people to carefully test their tolerance at home, with a recovery period built in, should they choose to drink.

They should prescribe this stuff to problem drinkers! I had a single vodka and coke and woke up the next day feeling like I had the flu. It sucked for 48 hours. Same thing happened a few months later when I tried another drink. Never again.

My problem isn't so much alcohol as it is greasy, fried foods. I've learned to be very careful about how much I eat, or I pay the price later with a bad stomachache.

I had half a pint and was like "Nope, that's enough for me." I couldn't even imagine having three beers now without feeling really bloated and awful, or just thinking it's a total waste of calories.

I've totally lost my taste for alcohol. I used to always keep a bottle of wine or Prosecco in the house. I loved liqueurs and enjoyed beer. I had some wine a week ago to see if I could still enjoy it. I did, but I have no desire to buy more.

It just eliminated my desire for alcohol completely, so I quit drinking altogether. Best decision ever.

I can see why alcohol and GLP-1s could be a bad mix... it's basically empty sugar calories with no protein or nutritional value. Your liver has to work overtime to process it.

Speaking of stomach issues, has anyone else dealt with constipation? I'm trying to figure out what to do. I've heard fiber is key.

To MyLoss and anyone else struggling with constipation, hydration and fiber are definitely critical. Some people have success with gentle laxatives, but always consult your doctor before starting anything new. I'd also encourage you to log your food intake with an app to see if anything in particular seems to be making it worse. Keeping track of fiber intake is important!

Amen to that! I learned my lesson with greasy foods. Now I have to watch what I eat AND make sure I get enough fiber to keep things moving. It's a balancing act, for sure.

I noticed someone mentioned delayed gastric emptying. That could explain why I feel so full even after a small meal. Thanks!
