Can't do protein or fats on this stuff!

Hey everyone.

So, I started my injections this week, and luckily, I haven't had any awful side effects so far. But, I'm finding that I can't even look at protein or fats of any kind. All I want are plain, simple carbs. I'm also craving sweet stuff, not savory - think toast with jelly, cream of wheat, and bananas. Anyone else experience this? And what can I do? I can handle baked tofu without any oil and protein powder mixed in fruit smoothies, but that's the only protein I can manage right now.

I totally get this feeling. I ended up trying the Mediterranean diet because I was living off of gummy bears and breaded chicken and it wasn't working. I added flax milk to my coffee for omega 3s, snacked on seasoned almonds, olives and other sources of protein, and made salads or 'volume bowls' for dinner. But it required really cutting out the sugar and processed fats and finding natural fats instead. Then I started losing weight like crazy.

The first couple of weeks are the toughest. You will eventually be able to eat protein again. The leaner cuts are better for me. I'm five months in now.

I had this for the first 2-3 weeks. I couldn't even look at meat. Greek yogurt and protein drinks were the only things I could manage. It got better around week 4, and I started eating normal food again little by little. Don't force yourself right now, just try to get protein in however you can.

That happened to me for a few weeks early on. I basically lived on simple carbs and yogurt. My healthcare provider suggested introducing protein back in slowly once the nausea calmed down.

Have you tried making a protein shake 'float'? I saw someone online mix a protein shake with Coke Zero -- apparently it tastes just like a Coke float! It's a great way to get some protein and satisfy a sweet tooth at the same time.

Thanks everyone for the tips! Sounds like protein shakes are the way to go for a while. I'll try the soup trick too. Maybe I'll experiment with some different flavors of protein powder. Appreciate the support!

Here's a tip I found helpful: track your progress with pictures. At first, I thought it was a little silly, but they've really helped me stay motivated. Sometimes the scale doesn't reflect the changes you're making, but the photos always show progress. Also, keep an eye on your protein intake to maintain muscle mass.

I agree with @Salad_Loss about the progress pics. I also started using a food scale to measure out ingredients when I'm prepping my meals for the week. It helps me keep track of exactly how much I'm eating and make sure I'm getting enough protein.

Just a heads up, some studies suggest that diet sodas like Coke Zero can actually increase hunger and cravings, even though they don't have any calories. So, it might be best to use that in moderation, or find a different low sugar beverage. Maybe diet root beer?

I put protein powder in my coffee with Fairlife milk in the morning. Lunch is usually a premier shake with the same milk. Dinner gets meat and good fats. If I'm under my 100 gram target and want something sweet at night I grab a Quest bar, the crispy peanut butter kind hits right.

Fried food tastes awful to me now. Chips too. Honestly don't miss them at all. Only 11 pounds to a normal BMI, so skipping that junk is actually helping.

had to start carb cycling around workouts — 70g before, 130g after. rice cakes, banana, syrup on the rest. one carb-load day a week with all-you-can-eat sushi. weird coming from years of keto but i eat to lift these days now.
