Done with maintenance! Now what?

I've finished the maintenance phase and I'm stoked to see what happens next! I started at 90kg back in January and I've been steady at 52kg for the past couple of months. I've been sharing my progress on my page if you wanna check it out.

Just wanted to share, I'm so damn happy to not have to shell out all that cash every month!

As a metabolic research scientist and MD, I've been prescribing these meds for over three years here in the US, and I also take them myself. I'm a bit puzzled by your statement about 'finishing maintenance.'

From all the data we currently have, including follow-up clinical trials after patients reached their target weight, maintaining weight loss requires a continuous dosage of these drugs; they're intended to be a long-term solution, not a quick fix. There isn't even a standard protocol for stopping the medication.

My research suggests that over 90% of people regain lost weight after discontinuing the drug, even those who maintain healthy lifestyle changes. These findings were consistent at the one, three, and five-year marks.

How long did you maintain your weight? Where did you get this idea of ending maintenance? I'm interested in any data supporting the end of maintenance, as I haven't found any in my review of current studies. Some studies are exploring other drugs to help patients maintain weight, but it's too early to draw conclusions. Could you share where you got this information?

Is that you at 90kg in the before pic? You look incredible even at that weight! I'm only 5'2" and all stomach and boobs.

I'm genuinely curious... what's your plan to avoid regaining the weight? I'm on it for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss, and I wonder what happens when people stop taking it. When I stopped for about six weeks, I gained almost 10 pounds and my blood sugar was way higher. Back on it now, at 5 mg.

I don't think that can be her before picture because if she weighed 90 kg, that is about 200 pounds and she doesn't look that big in that picture!

Hey Food_xo and Nat2004, I'm around 5'8" so I carry weight differently. It took me about 8 months to lose the weight. My 'maintenance' was a couple of months where I didn't actively try to lose more weight, but wasn't really tracking. I'm still eating healthy and exercising, but I wanted to see if I could manage without the meds.

I'm also curious about this! I've heard so many stories about people gaining it all back. Makes me nervous.

Leslie, that's disheartening. Are there any studies showing better success rates long-term?
