Down 70lbs - now what?

Hey everyone! I've been posting updates about my journey, and wanted to share where I am now. My doctors think I should go on a maintaining dose now, which I know is different for everyone. It's making me feel weird, like I want to lose maybe 5 more pounds, but I want to be healthy about it, y'know?

Also, those of you who've lost around this much weight, did you ever think about getting a tummy tuck? I know that little lower belly is normal, but I don't like how the loose skin hangs over my pants. Just a thought.

Here are my stats:

SW: 195
CW: 125
GW: (was 135)
New GW: 115
Height: 5'6"

Thanks for posting!

A quick reminder about the rules. No discussion of non-approved meds. No selling anything.

You look fantastic! Be careful aiming for 115 at your height, it's almost underweight. Trust your doctors on this one. It's super easy to keep pushing the goalposts further down when you've lost a lot of weight, and you don't want it to become unhealthy. Maybe hold steady for a while and see how you feel?

You should definitely think about maintenance. You've passed your initial goal by a lot. I don't know what you do daily, but building some muscle would be great for you. You might even gain a few pounds while doing it, but it'll be worth it.

You look wonderful! If you're thinking about a tummy tuck because of loose skin, I think you'd be happy with the results without losing more weight. At 125, you really don't need to. I had a tummy tuck after losing around 70 pounds (went from about 280 to 215) and it totally reshaped me.

115 is way too skinny. You'll look like a stick. I'm on a 2-year fitness thing and dropped from 203 to 151, and I'm 5'7". I get compliments all the time now. My goal is 145. I was thinner in my 20s, but I want something doable now that I'm older.

Like I want to shed a few more pounds before I switch but I want to do what’s healthy really.

Build muscle. It'll make you look even trimmer, be healthier, and keep you from going too low. Lift weights 2-3 times a week.

I think you look fantastic where you are! Going lower might make you look too thin, maybe even unwell. I'd focus on toning and weight training now. That would put you in a great position for a tummy tuck if you decide that's right for you.

I get wanting to see how low you can go, but is that truly healthy for you at your height? I think it's easy to get caught up and not be happy with how far you've come. You're slim now and at the low end of a healthy weight. Even if you gained back some you'd be healthy. Celebrate that success!

I started around 165 and I'm at 108 now. I'm only 5'2" though and carry my weight in my legs. I've lost all my boob's and didn't think about a boob job before, but I'm thinking about it now. What I'm trying to say is we all focus on one area and don't see the whole picture. I'm a size 4 and have great abs now from being active, but I still have problem areas I'm learning to accept.

You look great and congrats on your success!

You look amazing! Also I love your hairstyle, I've considered that a million times lol.

Do you have a regular workout? I know a couple trainers who focus on core stuff and it really helps with loose skin. I know it can feel hopeless, but if you do a few months of hard workouts it'll make a tummy tuck safer/easier, or maybe just lipo 360. I've looked into both, plus a breast lift because mine have deflated. Anyway, great job!

I'm your height, and your current weight is the lowest I've ever weighed with lean muscle (I used to be very athletic). Going down to 115 will not be healthy. The loose skin needs muscle under it not more weight loss.

If you have a mental image that needs more weight loss, fix that. You want a healthy, working body that will last so you don't end up back on GLP-1s. Your doc is right.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I think I will listen to y'all and focus on muscle building for a bit. It's just hard to get out of the mindset of "lose more weight". @ Georgie2015, I'd love to hear more about those core exercises!

I'll send you some links! Basically, it's a lot of planks, bridges, and stuff with resistance bands. The key is to really engage your core muscles. It won't get rid of the skin completely (only surgery can do that, usually), but it'll make it tighter and more toned. Good luck!

It's amazing how different people's journeys are. I've been losing weight steadily since November, even though it's a little up and down each week. Some weeks I drop 3lbs, then gain back almost 2lbs the next. I just keep going with it. Keep up the great work!

I agree with Alex_2001, building muscle is so important especially after losing a lot of weight. It protects your bones and helps regulate your metabolism. Plus it can fill out some of that loose skin a bit.
