I had a tough time bouncing back to my old self after gestational diabetes. I'd managed to shift around 35 pounds through diet and exercise, but then my sugars went haywire. My doc put me on a GLP-1 for blood sugar, and since then I've melted away another 55. It feels amazing to be in control again.
I'm still above my pre-baby weight, but hey, I'm 42 now, not 29! I'd like to drop another 15 or so, but honestly, I feel great even if I don't. My A1C is a sweet 5.1, fasting sugars hover between 85-95, and my BMI is 23.4.
For context, I'm 5'10". I used to hang around 145-155 before the kiddo, diabetes, and a sluggish thyroid threw me for a loop. Add in the lockdown lifestyle, and boom – 256 pounds! Now I'm at 163, aiming for 155, but happy wherever I land. I'm actually stronger now than before, clocking at least 2,000 steps daily. All that extra weight made my legs super powerful, lol.
I did lose the health coverage that was paying for my meds a few months back. My new job is great, pays better, but I'm shelling out of pocket for my meds now. Still, it's totally worth it to me.
