Expired GLP-1...eek!

Okay, so a bit of a mess here. Due to shifting doses, I had some older pens chilling in the fridge. My husband grabbed one without checking and I injected it. Turns out, it was 7.5mg when I'm now on 10mg.

I thought, no biggie, I'll just add a 5mg pen to reach 12.5mg (since I was on 15mg before but reduced due to side effects). But the 5mg expired in Sept '25, so I passed. Then I checked the 7.5mg pen I already used – expired Dec '25! I'm also a week late on my dose because of travel. So now I'm under-dosed with an expired pen.

All I have left are 15mg and 10mg pens, which would be too much on top of the 7.5mg (assuming it even worked). Should I wait like 4-6 days and then take my regular 10mg? Any thoughts?

Can you feel any effects? It's not like it turns bad the second it expires. I also used older boxes, and the pharmacist said it should be okay a few months past the date.

First thing: toss those expired pens if they worry you. But honestly, you did this backwards! Always use the older pens first. If you're moving from 7.5mg to 10mg, finish the 7.5mg pens before starting the 10mg.

I heard someone else used an expired pen and had no problems. Should be good.

It's like other meds – don't double up. Just wait for your next scheduled dose.

Not a doctor, but I've used expired doses with no issues. Pens were stored correctly, liquid was clear, and I didn't notice any change in how well it worked.

It looks like it's been stored well and it’s clear, so you're probably right, it's probs fine.

Regarding the 5mg, I was moved to a higher dose, so that's not a problem. But I did go down in dose for a reason. Maybe I'll just wait the week?

Those who have used old liquid that was stored correctly are saying it's effective and doesn't turn bad.

You'll have to see for yourself.

You could take a small dose with 4-5 days in between, or longer if you think it’s too strong.

I recently used one that was past its date in Dec '25. I only realized it after I took it. Didn’t have any issues at all. I double-checked the rest to make sure nothing else was expired. Best of luck!

If it's been in the fridge the whole time, you should be okay. The expiry dates are usually cautious. The bigger problem is the dosing mix-up. Don't take another shot to compensate – just stick to your normal schedule next week. Being a little under-dosed for a week is better than side effects from stacking doses.

Maybe try breaking up the doses? Like, inject a smaller amount every few days until you reach your normal weekly dose? Just a thought!

I've heard of people doing microdoses to manage side effects when they first start, or even titrating down. It might be worth exploring if you're concerned about jumping back to a higher dose too quickly.

been splitting from the start of the ramp. now at 10 per week with two 5mg doses. works better than one big hit.
