Food just ain't the same anymore?

Anyone else find their favorite treats just aren't doing it for them anymore? I used to look forward to this huge sandwich from a local place, packed with meat and cheese and all the fixings. Now it just doesn't taste as awesome. Still enjoy food, but some things just aren't the same!

Totally happens. Your tastebuds can change. Mine shifted a couple of months in, got kinda worse for a bit. Might have been when I had a dry mouth thing going on. But it evened out eventually, so hang in there!

I'm with you. I used to have such a sweet tooth, but sweets are totally unappealing now. Loved chips? Nope. Now, I mostly stick to chicken breast, salmon, beef, protein bars, baby carrots, and electrolyte drinks (I was a soda water addict). Zero desire for bubbly drinks now. Made fries for my husband yesterday and the smell made me sick. And, saddest of all, I lived for cheeseburgers... now, nothing. I don't crave *anything* anymore, which is amazing as a former overeater.

Maybe I'm weird, but my tastes haven't really changed. I just get satisfied quicker and stay that way longer. It's way easier to pass on greasy stuff like burgers, but they still taste great if I have them.

I hate when sandwiches have too much sauce! But otherwise, being on MJ I could easily eat a sandwich like that and now more than ever!

So, I'm a former MD now doing practice management. Been on Ozempic since late 2023, switched to Mounjaro early 2025, down 127lbs, 50 more to go + surgeries. Lately, I've been dealing with pretty intense food aversions. Things I used to love now make me gag. Anyone else?

Since November, bread is awful, pasta is disgusting. Potatoes? Forget it. Starches have a metallic flavor. Flavored fizzy water now tastes metallic. Bananas and avocados are revolting. I'm even struggling with protein. I'm trying a lemon protein powder with berries and hoping I can choke it down. Protein bars are too sweet. Yogurt is gross except for one coconut kind, but it's all sugar. Spoke to my doctor, but no solutions. I'm mostly eating steak, chicken, Italian sausage (small portion), taco meat, veggies, berries, oranges, and pineapple.

I still enjoy food but deep fried or fatty food (like my formerly beloved pork belly) make me nauseated instantly so it's been so easy to give them up.

I do miss dessert though- it does nothing for me anymore which is good but also a little sad

Patience and trust got me through. I stopped tracking every little thing and obsessing over the scale. Ditched the diet mentality and just rode it out. Plateaus were rough but they always came back down eventually.

This happened to me. I had bao buns a few months before starting and loved them. Bought a bunch to make at home. Started MJ and forgot about them. Later, I found them and they tasted disgustingly sweet, but I figured it was the brand or freezer burn. Went back to the restaurant and ordered them again... nope! Still tasted like sugar. Haven't had one since.

I haven't had the side effect of things tasting different. I guess I've been lucky. However, I have noticed that I don't crave "bad" foods as much anymore. I try to adopt the attitude that no food is bad, just foods to enjoy only occasionally. It helps that the food noise from before the medication is gone.

That sounds rough! Have you tried any nutritional testing to see if you are deficient in something? A metallic taste can sometimes be related to vitamin deficiencies.

Wow @VialStory, that is intense! I've heard of food aversions, but yours sounds really extreme. I'd be worried about malnutrition if I couldn't stomach protein. Maybe a different formulation of protein shake would help? Or try those clear protein drinks?

I'm on Zepbound, down about 20, and vegetables are starting to repulse me now, too! Even chicken is starting to taste 'off'. Carbs are the only things that sound good, mostly bland ones. I used to be so healthy!

Dude, that's the opposite of what we want! I'm glad I'm not there yet, hopefully it stays that way. I still like my veggies.

Started at the study dose with reta and man it was rough the first few weeks. No appetite at all, sleep got weird, constipation like crazy. Now about a week and a half in though and I'm noticing the appetite is creeping back in. Thinking about going up 1 mg and hoping I don't get that same initial kick.
