Gaining back weight on sema/triz?

Hey everyone,

So I've been using semaglutide and then trizepatide since last March. I went from 185 lbs to about 169 lbs, which was awesome.

But recently, the scale is creeping back up. I'm around 175 to 178 now. It's super discouraging. I'm at the gym, I'm running, I'm eating pretty well. I'm gaining weight, and I feel like losing less than 10 lbs in over a year seems off. I'm not prescribed this but maybe I need to talk to my doctor and see if something else is up?

Anyone else dealing with weight gain or just not much weight loss?

Quick question for you @Fit-Tale: Did you happen to start going to the gym when you started the GLP-1 meds? If so, you could be gaining muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. You might be changing your body composition. What's your routine like?

What's your dosage and daily calorie intake like, @Fit-Tale? I'm on Reta, so I understand the struggle. Have you had blood work done recently to see if everything looks okay?

I agree with @Drew1984, I would talk to a doctor and get a full hormone panel done. Check everything, especially thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. If you're perimenopausal, hormone imbalances can cause weight gain even with calorie restriction. Exercise can also make you feel exhausted, which makes things harder.

Good luck!

Gym work might be adding weight, that's true. Maybe I've gained 10-15 lbs of muscle? Thanks!

It's definitely possible, but 15lbs of muscle in a year is a LOT unless you're really dedicated. I'd still get bloods done, just to rule things out.

I was weighing myself weekly and it made me crazy! Now aiming for daily weigh-ins. Helps see the trends better and not freak out over small fluctuations. You gotta weigh yourself at the same time every day, after you pee, and with as little clothing as possible!

I've been on Ozempic for like 6 years now. It's been a game changer for my type 2 diabetes and PCOS. The first couple of years, the weight loss was slow. My blood sugar numbers improved, but I couldn't get below 220 lbs even with walking, so be patient.

Stuck at twenty pounds down and just bumped from two to three milligrams trying to break through. Not gaining which makes me happy but same weight for three weeks is driving me bananas.

The regain pattern usually traces to dose dropping below what that body needs to hold suppression, or appetite returning faster than habits adjusted. Going from 185 to 169 is real progress. The maintenance question is whether it's dose-related or the appetite floor shifting back.
