Generic Ozempic in Canada - Coming Soon?

I was chatting with my local pharmacist the other day, and they mentioned that the generic version was originally slated for a December debut, but it's been bumped back a bit. My contacts in the industry seem to think it's a hiccup on the production end, not regulatory. I'm not sure if it's a raw materials issue, staffing, or what.

Regarding price, the buzz is that it might land somewhere between $120 and $150 per injector pen.

Disclaimer: I dabble in pharmaceuticals, so I hear things. :D

Last I heard, none of the applications have been approved yet. They supposedly all need to be resubmitted because the formula doesn't properly replicate the method used by the original manufacturer. I didn't quite grasp the explanation, but it sounded like there was something inadequate about it.

Big pharma is a ripoff. Even the generic Ozempic will probably be much pricier than it needs to be. I've stopped coloring my hair to save cash and I'm never going back!

I'm wondering if insurance companies will actually cover the generic version...

That's a really good question. My insurance is already fighting me on brand name, so I'm not optimistic.

So, anyone venture a guess on when this stuff will actually hit the shelves?

March seems to be the general consensus among the pharmacists I've spoken with, but obviously that's subject to change. I'll update if I hear anything more concrete.

I read an interesting article claiming that Lindt chocolate sales are actually *up* among people using GLP-1 meds. Apparently, people are craving higher-quality sweets instead of junk food. Anyone else experiencing this?

I read somewhere that Ozempic will be significantly cheaper in Canada due to a patent issue. Apparently, a fee wasn't paid, and the patent lapsed! Can you believe it? Someone messed up big time. I'm hoping for a major price drop.

Is that really the reason? Wow!

pricing is honestly gross. my insurance should cover it—it's on their plan but they keep dragging it out with pre-auth forms. got my first wegovy pen yesterday after a year of out-of-pocket ozempic. the wegovy was $481.

This sounds like gallbladder stuff to me. Same thing happened after my first kid — mine just quit working. Started with greasy meals, then any food. Had to get it removed. Felt way better after but took 6 months of adjustment.

Generic sema timelines have slipped before. The Canadian market tends to follow US approvals by 12-18 months, so FDA finalization is the better guide than domestic pharmacy estimates.

Production delays at the manufacturing stage are typical for Canadian generics after Health Canada clearance. Mid-year landing is the current read from the supply side.
