GLP-1: Keep it secret?

Does anyone else keep their GLP-1 use quiet? My spouse is in the know, that's it. The kids are clueless. I'm not a diabetic, but I feel like my health stuff is private. Good luck to everyone on their weight loss!

It's not even about the stigma, just don't want the constant pressure to perform for others. If my mother knew, she'd be hounding me all day about what I weigh and how much I should have lost by now. No thanks.

Oh, so you're taking the easy way out? How do you know it's even safe long term? And how are you going to afford it? It doesn't teach real habit change, it's just a quick fix. What about the lowered blood pressure, better cholesterol, less joint pain, improved mood, increased activity, and longer life? Screw the haters. They're probably just jealous and sticking to their restrictive diets and hardcore workout routines. I'm hoping it becomes accessible for everyone soon.

I shout it from the rooftops! People need to know this stuff really works. I was at the store the other day and the cashier was stunned by my weight loss, and I told her straight up it's because of this medication. I even had to verify my birthday at my doctor's office because I look so different. No shame!

Only my husband's in the loop. I was always thin until my 30s, but the last decade and a half has been a rollercoaster because of pregnancies, breastfeeding, and meds. People just think it's another one of my normal weight fluctuations, so whatever. I keep my medical info private. It's between me and my doc.

Do what's best for you! I had gastric sleeve surgery secretly. My ex was under the impression that simply eating healthy and hitting the gym would magically make me lose weight. I'm done with the diet and hubby yo-yo! He still has no clue I had the surgery but he comments about my weight loss (100lbs). I just tell everyone else though. You do you. Avoid judgy people.

I tell people and could care less what they think. I had to lose weight or face the consequences. My weight went up and down for 2 decades and my youngest didn’t remember me at my best until now. I take semaglutide and I'm not sorry.

I spread the word! I'm so happy with how it’s going. A couple of my cousins are on it now. I don’t get the shame around it. I've been battling my weight forever and this has had a massive impact. If a GLP-1 helps, awesome.

I need it for my diabetes, so I don't care who knows or what they think. If using this medication is "cheating", then so is using any other medicine to improve your health.

I only told my friend who's also taking it. I know my folks would be weirded out, and I'm an adult, so I don't feel the need to share! What bugs me is that folks don't get that you STILL need to be in a calorie deficit and exercise on a GLP-1; it just makes it easier. What's wrong with that? Do they want us to suffer to prove we deserve weight loss?

I'm not sure why people feel like they need to hide it. It's the first real effective weight loss solution. The stigma should end, and public figures are helping.

It does frustrate me that people don’t realize that you still have to be in a calorie deficit and exercise even if you’re on a GLP-1, it just makes it easier to do so. What is the problem with that? They really want us to suffer as part of losing weight to prove our moral superiority. Genuinely who cares?
Exactly! People act like if it's not hard, it's not valid. It's like they want us to struggle.

I had a buddy give me the side-eye when I told him I was starting this drug. First thing he said was, "Was it prescribed?" It felt really condescending, like he thought I was just trying to get it without needing it. Actually my doctor brought it up because losing that weight would really improve my insulin resistance and joint pain.
