GLP-1 side effects - new bottle woes?

Hey everyone,

I've been using a GLP-1 med for about 2 years now. I started off really well and eventually got down to only needing a shot every couple of weeks, around 20 units. My old bottle ran out (it was past its prime anyway), so I got a new one. I took 20 units from the new bottle (hadn't injected in about 3 weeks) and I feel terrible – serious throwing up, nausea, headache, and super tired. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

If you didn't inject for 3 weeks and then went straight back to 20 units, that could be the reason. After a break like that, your body is more sensitive, and a dose that used to be fine can feel really strong. Maybe you should start with a smaller dose and work your way back up?

The half-life of the medication is about 7 days, so after a week, you still have about half the dose in your system. After two weeks, it's almost gone. Since you were injecting every two weeks, you were basically dosing as soon as it was wearing off. At three weeks, you're starting from scratch, which is why you're having side effects.

Thanks everyone, that makes sense. I will definitely adjust my dose next time. I guess I got cocky since I've been on it so long!

I can relate to the nausea - it can be brutal. I've been experimenting with different things to help. What has worked for me is eating smaller meals more often and avoiding really fatty foods.

To add to @Bee-IMO's point, some patients find relief by taking an antiemetic medication as prescribed by their doctor. It's crucial to consult with your healthcare provider to determine the best approach for managing your specific side effects.

I remember when I first started, the side effects were almost unbearable. I almost quit! But I stuck with it and found some strategies that worked for me. Now, two years later, I'm feeling great and just submitted my law school application!
That's awesome! Congrats on the law school application. This gives me hope LOL

Been on it since August and tolerance has been good. Mild nausea at the start, some bathroom issues, but nothing serious enough to skip doses. Glad to hear others have smooth runs too.

Made the leap and feeling pretty good about it. The side effects were manageable. Drinking more water throughout the day has been key for me.

The probiotic approach for GI management is underrated on these meds - a lot of people find a product specifically formulated around GLP side effects helps more than generic options. Worth sticking with it consistently rather than ad hoc.
