Weight Reduction Meds Showing Enhanced Results for Skin Problems

Seeing improvements in psoriasis and other ongoing skin problems with GLP-1 receptor agonists suggests they might be used more in dermatology. Maybe dermatologists could even start helping manage obesity.

Better skin and weight? Sounds great.

I'm 70 and developed a small patch of psoriasis on my lower leg last year. The dermatologist didn't seem too concerned. But since starting on tirzepatide around 3 months ago, the spot seems less itchy and is smaller.

Tirzepatide appears to reduce inflammation. I suspect all GLP-1 drugs do, though that hasn't been proven by research. But studies are probably underway.

Reta is definitely anti-inflammatory. I used it from June '24 to April '25, got bloodwork 3 times during that period, and saw my inflammatory markers decrease each time.

Since I had a kidney removed, I'm always interested in kidney-related studies. This one is fascinating:

The study indicated that kidney damage was reduced by tirzepatide, which decreased inflammatory markers, boosted antioxidant activity, and improved tissue damage.

I just started this journey and reading all this is really encouraging. I'm worried about the weight loss, but also the other issues I have - high blood pressure and pre-diabetes. Hopefully this med will help like it has for others!

Stick with it! It can be really life changing. Just be sure to keep your doctor informed of any side effects.

Has anyone dealt with loose skin after losing a lot of weight? That's my looming fear.

It's definitely something to think about. I've heard compression garments can help, and some people consider surgery if it's really bothersome.

Good call skipping the extra selenium. I take niacinamide mainly for joint stuff plus the skin benefits. Only been on this supplement routine for under a year.

Those needles are too bendy sometimes. A couple have even cracked though luckily not still in me. The ones I switched to aren't bendy. I probably handle them too rough when they're in the vial though.

Started at a BMI over 60, now I'm pushing under 32. Bariatric surgery got me moving in the right direction, but combining it with GLP meds is hitting different. Goal is under 30 before dealing with the loose skin removal.
