GLP-1s killin' my wallet!

Hey everyone. So, I managed to get a prescription from the doctor, but my health insurance company is refusing to pay for it. I looked into one of those online telehealth places, but it's like $400+ every month, and that's more than I can afford right now. I'm getting really frustrated, because these meds are supposed to be great for my condition, but it feels impossible to get them without breaking the bank. Anyone got any advice or tips? This is seriously bumming me out.

EDIT: Wow, I didn't know about those discount cards that you can self pay with. You guys are lifesavers!

Have you talked with your local pharmacy about paying cash for your meds instead of using insurance? My insurance would have charged me like $1,600, but the cash price was only $160 per month. (For the injectable version, FYI)

Hey there! I've found success with one of those online telehealth providers. You fill out your info, get approved by a doctor, and they send the medication right to you. I think it was around $80/month when I started, and is now $150/month.

I'm currently using one of those online pharmacy places, and it's costing me around $135 a month with their quarterly plan. The cost doesn't seem to change based on the dosage, and they give you free syringes and alcohol wipes. Still not cheap, but better than paying almost five hundred bucks.

I'm currently paying $120 a month through an online provider. It's been okay so far, no issues.

If your doctor is willing to write a script, why are you using an online telehealth provider? Getting rid of that membership fee could save you $150/month. You can also try using the medication's discount card to get the lowest possible price at your local pharmacy.

If that's still too expensive, you could look into compounded versions of the medication. Just be careful and do your research before choosing a provider. They aren't all created equal.

I've heard that one of the providers can be pretty affordable, around $360 for a three-month supply of the medication.

My doctor (who specializes in weight loss) uses a compounding pharmacy that charges me $170 for my current dose, and that includes shipping. When I was on a lower dose, it was only $90. You might want to ask your doctor if they can recommend a compounding pharmacy. I'm in the Pacific Northwest, if that helps.

What did your doctor prescribe? There are different types of this medication available.

Also, check online for discount coupons! You might be able to get a discount, especially if you're a new patient.

I've been using this online provider for a few months and it's been the cheapest option I've found. They charge the same monthly fee no matter what dose you're on, which is nice once your dose starts going up. I was worried about using an online provider at first, but my experience has been good and their customer service is solid.

I've lost about 60 pounds since I started using their meds. They also usually send more than a 4-week supply, so it ends up being cheaper than it looks.

They've also lowered their prices recently (the meds are now around $150/month).

Have you tried searching online for those medication discount codes? I always do that whenever a medication is too expensive. Sometimes you can even combine them with your insurance. Contact your local pharmacy and see if they accept any of the codes you find. I've saved a lot of money that way. I wish you the best of luck!

That's a great idea! I've also had luck calling the medication manufacturer directly and asking if they have any patient assistance programs. Sometimes they can offer significant discounts or even free medication to those who qualify.

Doc wants me on Wegovy. Gonna try some of these coupon codes and see if they help. Thanks so much, everyone!
