GLP-1s: Miracle or Hype?

I started sema for weight managment, and wow does it work. But more than that, my cravings are way down - like 80%! It's wild how much easier it is to concentrate on what's important. Anyone else feel this way?

I can't believe how much headspace I have now, not constantly obsessing about:

what to eat next, did I eat too much, am I actually just hungry or am I being a glutton, should I feel bad about that cookie, too many carbs again, should I try keto or IF, why can't I just be normal...

It's liberating! My clothes fit better, but honestly the mental freedom is the best part. I might just stay on this forever for my brain!

Hot take incoming, but the science seems to back you up. Lots of studies look promising for semaglutide treating things like eating disorders, liver issues and long-term weight managment. We might be on the verge of something big. Sema might be seen as a game changer later on, like penicillin.

I went from over 300 lbs to around 130 lbs using similar meds, and I don't want to stop! I feel like the BEST version of myself because of them. It's not just physical, but mental too. It's SO freeing to not be controlled by food. You realize how many of us are slaves to food and use it for emotional support. I work out regularly. And I've lost interest in unhealthy habits. I'm not interested in drinking, etc. I feel more spiritual and focused - the person I always wanted to be, but couldn't achieve.

I think these drugs will become more mainstream, especially for older people even without much weight to lose.

There's more and more evidence that Oz and similar meds reduce the risk of heart issues and strokes. My parents both had strokes, so I'm very interested in avoiding that.

You won't be happy to hear that food scientists are working on something to counteract glp-1 agonists.

They're trying to make them fail. AND they supposedly know how to increase ghrelin, the hunger hormone...

These are the same people who used to work in tobacco, adding sugar to make cigarettes more addictive. They engineer additives to mess with us.

It's a war on our brains!

Imagine being super hungry these days with these prices! AND paying a ton for your meds, I'd lose it!

It could really help a lot of people struggling with addiction.

It won't work for everyone, but it's a start.

Besides losing weight, I feel like my chronic inflamation and fatigue are gone and I don't even want alcohol anymore. I used to feel like I was 70, tired and achey. Now I feel normal.

I'm talking to my doctor about starting. I'm 36, around 240lbs, and I've struggled with my weight forever. I'm a little worried about the thyroid cancer rumors and side effects. Anyone have advice? Food noise is a big problem. I'm pretty active and walk a lot. I think this could help me mentally and physically.

I never went above a low dose, and now I only inject every few weeks. A lot of food just looks unappetizing. I can eat a salad with chicken and veggies and feel full all day. It's amazing how it's changed my relationship with food.

OZ made me so sick, no matter the dose. I had to stop after a few months, and I barely lost weight. It's not for everyone.

I started ozempic for diabetes, but now I'm on something similar. These drugs are amazing! Weight loss was a nice bonus, but it's been great for my health. My diabetes is under control, my skin looks better, my blood pressure is better, and my legs don't hurt as much. It's awful that it's so expensive and not always available.

I have been enjoying other things now that I don't think about food all day. I've started doing jigsaw puzzles, and I can concentrate now and not look at my phone every 5 minutes!

I am obviously a bit worried about the thyroid cancer rumours and side effects. Can anyone put my mind at ease?

I understand your concerns. Talk to your doctor and weigh the benefits for you personally. Side effects affect everyone differently.

I've only been on it a short while, but my face is already changing. It feels like I somehow got my willpower back! I stopped smoking, caffeine, soda, and sweets. It's like magic!
