GLP-1s & my liver's like, YES!

So, first month I was on 2.5mg of tirzepatide. Second month I upped it to 5mg. Around week two of the second month, I switched to 2.5mg retatrutide plus 3mg tirzepatide, taken about 3-4 days apart.

I've dropped around 18 pounds.

Did blood work in December '24, then again at the end of June '25:

Glucose went from 97 to 83
Triglycerides dropped from 141 to 74
Total cholesterol went from 192 to 153
LDL went from 120 to 96
HDL stayed the same
Uric acid went from 7 to 6.7

But here's the really cool part:

AST/GOT dropped from 41 to 22
ALT/GPT went from 83 to 30
GGT went from 71 to 42

For the first time in two decades, my liver enzymes are actually normal!

Those liver readings are fantastic. I'd almost trade something to have triglycerides that low... mine were sky high for a while and are just starting to come down. I wonder if it's the GLP-1 itself, or just the weight loss that's helping your liver. Probably a combo of both.

Great work! I've got similar bloodwork improvements recently, after about two months on tirzepatide. My doctor was really happy with the results. I've even stopped taking allopurinol (low dose) and I'm curious to see if my uric acid changes on the next blood test.

Here are my before/afters:

Metric | Previous Value | Current Value
---|---|---
Glucose (mg/dL) | 94 | 84
Triglycerides (mg/dL) | 91 | 56
Total Cholesterol (mg/dL) | 202 | 165
LDL (mg/dL) | 140 | 112
HDL (mg/dL) | 46 | 42
Uric Acid (mg/dL) | 7.2 | 5.6
AST/GOT (IU/L) | 44 | 28
ALT/GPT (IU/L) | 97 | 29

That's awesome news! I'm getting my blood work done this week and will compare the results to my previous tests before starting Mounjaro. I'll post an update here.

I'm thinking about getting a DEXA scan to see how much fat I'm really losing. I wish I'd done one before starting the meds. Has anyone else had a DEXA scan before/during their GLP-1 journey?

That's a great idea! I'm a data nerd myself, so I totally get wanting to track body composition changes with a DEXA scan. It would be cool if doctors suggested them yearly for people on these meds.

People need solid baseline labs before lowering doses. High triglycerides or fatty liver? Big red flag. And if you haven't had full bloodwork yet, get it done first.

I didn't write down when Lipitor started since it's been 20 years, but I should've marked the stop date - that was 3 weeks back. I know people here like pitavastatin for statins because it's easier on the liver and rarely triggers muscle soreness. It's a decent option, though it doesn't cut cholesterol quite like atorvastatin or rosuvastatin.
