GLP-1s: Worth the Hype?

I saw a recent interview with Dr. Scholz where he discussed semaglutide as a weight loss aid. He was asked if it lives up to the hype and how it stacks up against older meds. What do you guys think?

I'm loving it! It's really shifted how I see food, like it's just fuel now. The increased dose to 5mg this week made me a tad nauseous on days one and two, but it's temporary and I can deal with it. Similar thing happened the first few days on the 2.5mg dose and then my body adjusted. I've heard it can take up to a month for everything to fully saturate and do its thing with the receptors. I almost skipped the 5mg dose, but my doctor advised that I follow the prescription. So glad that I did.

I've also noticed some mild constipation. I've increased my water intake along with my magnesium supplement and that seems to work. I'm curious, how long were you on semaglutide and what was your max dose? Since tirzepatide also targets GIP it might take some time, but maybe not. Good luck!

Hey everyone, I'm considering trying semaglutide. Any advice on dosage, when to increase, etc.? Just trying to get some info before I commit.

I've heard that being cold is a pretty common side effect. Your body is using fewer calories, so it produces less heat. Layering clothes can help. I bought myself an electric blanket for the winter.

It's because you're in a constant caloric deficit. Once you hit your goal and stabilize, it should get better. Wear more layers!

Two years on this stuff...wow. Incredible transformation, congrats! I've been working on some of the mental aspects of my own eating habits too. It's definitely a journey.

Most docs keep prescribing metformin alongside this med. Huge benefits and many countries give it broadly regardless of diabetic status. Usually 500mg with glp meds, extended release best. Dirt cheap, maybe two bucks monthly. Google it, could help you stay on it.

On Lexapro, Metoprolol, daily antacid, Claritin for allergies, and thinking about Ozempic for weight loss. Doc says no interactions but research is limited and unknown interactions could exist. Anyone on these with Ozempic? Want to hear your experiences.

look at old photos and don't recognize myself. still think i'm bigger than i am. swam the other day and felt air on places that were better padded before—weird sensation. bouncing around in water fitness class now, basically a one-person spa with all the flapping.

The cost question is where most of the worth-it debate actually lives. Bundled membership pricing like RO's makes the entry cost look worse than it needs to. The medication itself through better access points is a different calculation - and what it does for sustained weight management is well-documented.
