Goal weight! Now what??

I'm so close to my goal, only about 8 lbs to go! What's the plan once we get there? Do we just cut back on the injections, like maybe twice a month instead of weekly? Or do we keep the weekly schedule but lower the dose? How are you all handling maintenance?

Hey there! Just a reminder that we don't allow discussion of non-approved stuff or any selling of meds. Check out the FAQ if you're new:

I've kept taking a dose every week, but I've lowered it to where I'm not losing any more weight but I'm also not gaining. I've been on this maintenance dose for over two years now.

I stayed at the highest dose, but I started pushing the shot back a day every week or so. I went from every 7 days to about every 3 weeks, and it didn't change my appetite or weight much. I went a little past 3 weeks and started getting hungrier, so I figured out that 3 weeks is my sweet spot.

I didn't have any side effects, so staying at the highest dose wasn't an issue. But if you do have side effects, you could lower the dose a bit and spread the shots out to find what works.

I've been in maintenance mode for about 2 months now. Still injecting once a week, but I've lowered the dose a bit and I add more calories on the weekends. I got into a routine of eggs for breakfast, crackers/cheese for lunch, and a salad with chicken/shrimp for dinner. Balance is important, and I don't really crave anything, which is fine with me. My bloodwork is normal now and I understand this is a long term med, so I'll keep using it but taper down a little.

When I reached my goal, I kept the highest dose but spaced it out to every 2 or 3 weeks. If I feel like I need more, I might do 2 weeks in a row sometimes.

I've been doing this for about a year. I'm back to eating 3 meals a day, but they're small, and I've gained about 5 pounds.

Yes, go down gradually. I've kept the weight off for over a year. I take .50 twice a month now.

I'm using the same dose and injecting the same way. I'm keeping my weight stable, not losing or gaining, so this seems to be my body's "sweet spot." Staying at the max dose on the same schedule is working well for me. It'll be different for everyone, and my doctor and I are ready to adjust if I start losing weight again.

I'd stay at your goal for a few months at least. Then, slowly lower it to the lowest amount you can maintain on. I lowered my dose right away, the same week I hit my goal. I also started spacing the shot out to two weeks. I gained back 10 lbs over 6 months.

I do the shot every 10 days and have gone from 1mg to .75. I'd still like to lose another 5-6lbs, but that'll mean tracking my macros, so I need to get into that mindset.

I had to stop for 6 weeks, and my doctor said I should try staying off... Nope! I could feel my hunger coming back and I started eating too much. I restarted at the lowest dose and only had to go up one level to get enough hunger/satiety cues to stay on track - for now!

So helpful to hear everyone's experience! I think I'll try spacing out the doses and see how that goes. Thanks!

It's great to hear success stories of people who have stopped completely and kept the weight off. It gives me hope that it's possible if you really change your habits. I'm focusing on exercise and strength training now, hoping that will help me maintain when I eventually come off the medication.

I'm curious to know how long people have been off the meds and still maintaining. I'm afraid of the hunger coming back like Slim_FTW mentioned!

I'm really hoping to avoid being on this medication for life. I'm working on changing my mindset around food and exercise. It's encouraging to see that some people can maintain their weight loss after stopping.

Congrats on getting close to your goal! Whatever you do, make sure you have been at your goal weight for a few months before changing anything.
