Hair falling out on Zepbound :(

Hong Kong Yanpep International
Just grabbed my first kit this morning after extensive forum research. Never done this before, excited to experiment. Your approach sounds smart, and open to advice from anyone who's built muscle.

mounjaro is tirzepatide not semaglutide — heads up since you mentioned you're on it. tirzepatide tends to spare more muscle than sema does

Hair loss on Mounjaro is almost always telogen effluvium from the calorie restriction rather than a direct medication effect - your body deprioritizes hair follicles when resources are limited. It's temporary and usually peaks around months 3-4 then reverses as your body adjusts. Keeping protein high helps minimize it.

The combination approach is more honest than any single-supplement claim - biotin gets the most attention but the evidence for it specifically in this kind of hair loss is thin. Iron is the one that actually matters when deficiency is present, and the physical care piece just makes existing hair look better in the meantime.

Six months was about the limit for me on MJ - it slowed down noticeably and then basically stopped on its own. The shampoo approach is worth trying in the meantime. The anti-hair-loss formulas don't stop the shedding entirely but they seem to reduce how much comes out during washing, which at least makes it feel more manageable when you're going through the worst of it.

The Bondi Boost plus boar bristle brush combination works mechanically at two levels - the products address the scalp environment and circulation while the brush distributes sebum along the shaft and reduces breakage from friction during shedding. Hair loss from telogen effluvium is already a shed pattern, so minimizing mechanical breakage on top of it is the part that's actually controllable in the short term.

Same here! Didn't lose much weight, mostly just hair, mine's long and fine but there's tons of it, shedding in brush-fuls just like yours, all over the pillow each morning, genuinely afraid to shampoo it or comb through it, kicked off around 3-4 months in.

Bloodwork before Mounjaro was all normal. Six months later, everything fine except low zinc, retested and got the same result.

Honestly think Mounjaro pushes you toward being way more intentional about food, since the noise disappears you plan meals ahead rather than eating out of hunger. Point is, I was probably being extra careful getting a good spread of nutrients, so doubt diet caused the low zinc.

Doctor prescribed a strong zinc dose, roughly triple the RDA, for two months, then said to just watch my regular multivitamin covered it after. That was last fall, took until about a month ago before my hair felt normal again.

Might tie to that seven-month hair cycle people mention, but you get through it.

My doctor mentioned hair loss usually comes from not getting enough protein or key nutrients, not the medication itself causing it directly.

Hair loss traces back to losing weight too fast, not mounjaro itself. Do some people shed hair while on it? Sure, usually because nutrition's being neglected. Plenty of others don't experience any hair loss at all.

For me personally, hair thinning was the toughest part. Did everything by the book, solid nutrition, decent workout routine, and still lost roughly half my hair density over six or seven months. Paused the medication for now hoping to recover some of that.

Metabolic stress tends to hit harder with sema and tirz. Try upping your protein intake, saw some research pointing to that helping with the hair loss side of things.

No hair loss on my end, been on this drug class a while now. Currently at a moderate dose and running slightly anemic. Nobody warned me it might happen, though I've seen people online mention thinning hair as a possibility. Guess that's something that could still show up for me too. Not sure if it traces back to the medication alone, some combination with hormonal shifts, or maybe a supplement clashing with it. Feel for what you're going through.

Not sure why some people are so quick to rule out the medication entirely. It's genuinely possible, and there's emerging research pointing toward a real connection. Hair thinning is even listed as a known side effect on the branded version of this exact same drug, whichever name it's marketed under.

There's a peer-reviewed study out there showing a plausible link between this medication class and two distinct hair-loss patterns, one of which unfortunately has no cure, though it can be managed if caught early. I'm sorry you're going through this. It really is frightening.

People like to blame the weight loss itself for hair loss. But it's really not that. It's the medication doing it. Been on Wegovy ten months, seven of those with zero progress, and still shedding hair constantly the whole time. Progress on Mounjaro has crawled along too, roughly a kilo a month, and the shedding still hasn't eased up.

What caught me off guard is how little food interests me now. So little that figuring out what to eat has actually gotten hard, nothing really pulls at me anymore.
