For anyone heading to maintenance and considering skin removal, a friend had multiple surgeries and said having support is key. You'll likely need help with everyday tasks while you recover. Plan to have friends or family around for a few weeks.
That's really good advice, Drew_19! I'm definitely considering skin removal and will keep that in mind. It's daunting!

Going from 295 to 155 and starting maintenance is the phase most people underestimate - the biology of weight defense is most active in the first 12-18 months after a large loss, which is exactly when building the habits that counteract it matters most. The community navigation piece actually becomes more important in maintenance than during active loss because the external validation of dropping numbers is gone.

The 'why would now be different' point is exactly right and the medical literature backs it up completely. The body's weight-regaining mechanisms don't go away because you lost weight - they actually intensify at lower weights. A doctor who frames stopping as the natural endpoint hasn't been keeping up.

Genuinely stressful stretch, been sitting in maintenance for over two years now. Somehow still dropped another 15 lbs during that time, and I'm still tweaking my dose amount and how often I take it. Honestly this part's been way tougher than the actual weight loss ever was.

Just past three years and three months in, still taking a weekly maintenance dose. After reaching my target number my body naturally plateaued and the pounds stopped dropping on their own, sitting at 5'3 and 140 now. Dropped 45 lbs over roughly eight months thanks to the medication and it's stayed off ever since.

Appreciate that. Definitely relieved to apparently fall into that 15-20 percent whose bodies actually adjust to a new normal. That said, none of this comes down to choice, and nobody's better or worse off depending on whether they still need maintenance medication once they hit their goal. Either way, having a medication like this out there doing so much good for so many people trying to shed weight is genuinely remarkable.
