How do you decide the medication just isn't working for you?

I could use some outside perspective. My Mounjaro start date was April 12, and I'm trying to work out when you can say a medication just isn't the right one for you. First month on 2.5 mg I dropped about 8 pounds, mostly water I assume. Then two months at 5 mg gave me roughly 5 pounds in total. Now I'm three weeks into 7.5 mg and I've put on 2 pounds instead. The scale bounces, I get that, but after such a slow stretch it stings. I began at 202 and hover between 189 and 191 these days, with 191 showing this morning.

Protein is covered. I'm not exercising right now. I know lifting matters for keeping muscle, but plenty of people lose on this without it, so that's not what I'm asking. The drug is clearly still doing something: fullness lasts through most of my day and cravings are much easier to manage. It's just that the number moves so slowly. So how long do you give it before deciding it isn't effective for you, and what would make you switch?

If the scale isn't moving after two months, then you aren't really in a deficit, no matter what you think you're eating. Maybe track everything over the next fortnight and see.

This might be encouraging or discouraging, but here goes. I began at 307 lbs, climbed to 15mg, reached roughly 252, then stalled. I stuck with it patiently, and around month 5 a whoosh arrived, 2 pounds gone, and the scale has moved ever since. Trial data I came across said losing about 20% is where folks plateau and the automatic loss stops. No idea how long you've taken Mounjaro, but that commonly happened near week 80.

I've lost 60 pounds across several years. I mainly take Mounjaro for T2D, weight loss is the bonus. There were multiple plateaus lasting months and then suddenly 10 pounds gone with no change! Don't get discouraged, muscle gain could be happening, and that's good. You also don't want to lose so fast you end up saggy!

Hang in there, it gets better. I've been on Mounjaro about 18 months and dropped 107 pounds, about 48.5 kilos, though I had to climb to 15mg to reach goal. It wasn't fast, it took time stepping up 7.5, then 10, then 15mg. Which dose are you at, and has your doctor mentioned increasing? After 3 months I'd say an increase may be due. You CAN do this! Five kg is real progress. Don't lose hope, but speak up for your health.
