Huberman: GLP-1s changed wellness?

A few reasons maybe:

1. These meds are fairly new, and historically, weight loss drugs often have bad side effects down the road.
2. Access was limited to those with good insurance or high incomes.
3. There was a stigma. Many celebrities suddenly slimmed down and attributed it to an interest in walking and overall wellness.

I read that these meds might help with addiction, like reducing cravings for alcohol and sugar. This article seems to miss that info. Also, they have anti-inflammatory effects, right?

The diet and nutrition world is full of bad information, so I get why some people were skeptical of GLP-1s at first. I was too! It was reading about retatrutide that made me understand. A lot of "experts" still think CICO is the only way to lose weight and that GLP-1s just make you eat less. They don't see the bigger picture.

I always believed in CICO because that's what I heard from doctors and nutritionists. It's confusing with so much conflicting info. Obesity rates show something's not working (genes, cost, upbringing, and marketing play a role too).

I've been eating one meal a day with a small snack, trying to fast for 15 hours for weeks now. Protein, carbs, and veggies in each meal. Not even close to 2000 calories. Still, there were weeks where I stayed the same or even gained weight! Then I'd gain a few pounds during my period, which shouldn't happen according to CICO.

Now I can see what's what because of GLP-1s. It's almost like I was lied to. It is great to feel and look well. It makes you want to take care of yourself.

When I started tirzepatide, I decided not to do CICO because normal people don't track everything. It's helped me have a healthier relationship with food. I'm tracking macros now to ensure I'm getting enough protein, fat, and carbs. It's amazing how small some serving sizes are. Like cashews, 1oz is 180 calories, and it's not much. Before, I could easily eat 4oz while watching TV – almost 800 calories!

The wellness community is obsolete. Now that GLPs are fixing calorie intake and metabolism for many of us, they can't capitalize on diet and exercise failing 95% of the time. Focusing on protein and muscle stimulation doesn't require fancy gyms or trainers. They'll have to come up with new stuff to stay relevant. Like saying we'll break our hips from muscle loss if we don't use them. We don't need them past a few teaching sessions. I've been there and done that. I'm never going back to the fitness/wellness world again, unless it involves some fun social activity.

Let me clarify my CICO comment: CICO isn't wrong, it's just not useful for long-term weight loss. You know eating less will make you smaller, and eating more will make you bigger. You don't need science to understand that. The problem is, it's nearly impossible to accurately determine calorie intake (CI) or predict calorie output (CO) outside of a lab setting. Digestion, gut bacteria, food prep, and other things affect CI. As for CO, your body's energy needs change all the time. All that gets lumped into basal metabolic rate, but it varies based on activity, food, and hormones. People get fat because food companies make addictive products that override hunger cues. So CICO can explain what happened to your weight *last* month, but it won't predict what will happen *next* month. It's like telling a heroin addict to just stop using heroin. GLPs are a tool to break food addiction and figure out what healthy food is.

CICO gone wrong: "How little can I eat today?" CICO done right: A baked potato is more filling than potato chips (per calorie). GLPs: "Am I eating enough to keep my energy up and prevent muscle loss?"

I've never lost weight in my life. I've seen weightloss fads using needles come and go. Never jumped in. Seen people lose and gain it all back. Time will tell, but if the doctor thinks it's OK, it probably is alright. They used to bury 80% of the people diagnosed with cancer, but now many are walking around. It's a good time to be alive.

That's a smart idea. I was told to use black plates to better see the rice with more contrast. I should probably stop eating from bowls, haha.

Yes, you're correct! The research is showing very promising results in these areas. It's definitely more than just weight loss.

I'm paying $120 a month for my GLP. I just saw some ads for online places that are way cheaper. Anyone have good luck with those?

Hey Cat_Life, I've been using one of those online places for a few months now. It's pretty convenient. I pay around $400 for a 3-month supply. Care isn't super involved, which I'm fine with.

I've been on TRT for a few years now and always looking for the best price. I just saw some prices that are pretty good so I am thinking about making the switch. Anyone try these? Shipping costs?

I think I saw someone say that they have overnight shipping for an extra charge.
