Hunger's Back?!

I'm about a year in, down 100+ lbs, but still have another 18-20 to go to reach my goal. Still carrying a good amount of body fat, though.

I made a mistake a few weeks ago and took slightly more than my usual 5mg dose (it was early, and I didn't count the clicks right). I've gone back to 5mg since then, but I've started feeling hungrier than before. Has anyone else experienced this?

It's not cravings or food noise, but actual hunger pangs. I'm eating the same, maybe even more protein and fiber. I've also gotten back into my routine of daily walks and strength training. My calorie deficit is around 650 calories now. I'm smaller now, so my calorie needs should be less, right? So, the increased hunger doesn't make sense.

Anyone else feel hungrier after being on the same dosage for almost a year? Or could it be that one slightly higher dose from a few weeks ago?

The main researcher, Dr. Jastreboff, talks about how the medication lowers your body's defended fat mass. Everyone's different, but hunger can come back when you reach a certain point on a dose, even if you don't gain weight as long as you stay on the meds.

I found that out myself - my body seemed to stabilize at 220 lbs on 5mg, and then I started feeling hungrier until I upped my prescription. I really recommend checking out this video where Dr. Jastreboff explains it all https://youtu.be/j3k3UAEqJio?si=yGz5wdBKHbILIniP. It's aimed at doctors, but it's good information, since some doctors aren't up-to-date on this stuff.

I always make sure to count my dose when administering the pen and mark it with a pen. I still get hungry from time to time. I make sure I have protein available to suppress my appetite. Hard boiled eggs are great for this!

Fully crushing hunger without feeling rough is tough. What you really want is smaller portions that make you feel full, less thinking about food between meals, fewer cravings for junk. If you're eating when hungry and that adds up to losing weight sensibly without constant fighting, it's working right. Sounds close to that already.

I had a similar experience. Been on it since July, and 5mg since August. I accidentally took 10mg instead of 5mg a little while ago. Now I'm getting stronger hunger signals ever since, even though I'm back on 5mg. I'm sticking to my plan, though. Maybe the increased exercise/training sessions are making me crave more energy. I'm eating even more protein now. It's all good!

I think it's a mix of things - the slightly higher dose, getting back to working out often (needing more fuel), and winter. Plus, building muscle helps your metabolism, so that might be part of it too.

Same thing happened to me! I went up to 7.5mg, but my last dose wasn't a full one. I started feeling a little hungry a few days later. Thankfully, it's shot day in a couple of days, so I'll be back on 7.5mg.

I went down from 10mg to 5mg gradually. I accidentally did a 7.5 injection one day apart, so I ended up with 15mg that week. I threw up the morning after the 2nd 7.5 injection. That's the only time I've ever vomited on any dose of MJ. After that, I could eat or drink anything without my blood sugar going crazy. I had to drop down to a lower dose because I was losing too much weight. I get hungrier a couple of days before my next injection, so I eat healthy snacks more often then. A protein bar or some nuts usually does the trick. I haven't gained weight back yet, and I've been on 5mg for about six months now. Hoping it stays that way. Good luck!

I've noticed that the further I get in my journey, the more important strength training becomes. Seems like retaining muscle mass helps fight some of that hunger. Are you lifting heavy enough?

I read a thread where people were talking about how many are buying these meds online without any medical supervision. As a nurse, I find that scary. Make sure you have baseline labs done and that your doctor knows what you are taking.

I agree, Moody_Good. It's tempting to find cheaper options, and the insurance situation is a nightmare, but going rogue with this stuff is risky. Plus, it makes it harder for people who really need prescriptions to get them.

Was on it 5 years, last 2 at 2mg. Went off lost insurance, back on at 1mg. Intermittent fasting, ate when hungry. Stabilized but felt different. Always hungry but no cravings, no food noise, just constant burping up stuff. Said it didn't work the same. Not sure I want to keep going even though it probably helps. You know what I mean?
