Leftover doses - anyone else?

Hey everyone,

Just finished the starter pen, and like I thought, there's some medication still in there. I think I could even get another full dose out of it.

Anyone else use the remaining medication? I know I'm going up to a higher dose now, but for future pens when I'm staying at the same dose, it would be good to know.

Of course, I'd get new needles.

Yep! I use every last drop. If there isn't enough for a shot, I combine it from the old and new pens. Make sure you have extra needles!

Are you taking the 0.25 mg dose? The pen I have here is for either 0.25 or 0.5 mg - so you can get 8 doses at 0.25. But it only came with 6 needles. You might wanna buy extra needles so you can use the entire pen.

Mine came with just four needles as well. I agree with Fiber-Dude, you can purchase the same gauge needles at any pharmacy.

My advice is to stay at 0.25 mg as long as it works for you, then when it stops working increase to 0.5 mg. I jumped up every month and now the 1 mg dose isn't working as well but insurance won't cover anything higher. I wish I had stayed on each dose longer.

Good luck!

I agree with Leslie64, I would definitely buy extra needles and use the rest of the medication in the pen. It will save you money. You can get 100 compatible needles for pretty cheap.

The starter pen is supposed to have four doses of 0.25 mg and two doses of 0.5 mg. Which is why it comes with six needles.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! Good to know I'm not the only one trying to get every last bit of medication. I'll definitely get some extra needles. Tone_IMO385 good point about staying on the dose as long as it works. I'll keep that in mind.

I've also read about people counting clicks to measure out doses from larger pens. Has anyone tried that? Seems like you could save some cash that way!

Yes, some do that. Just make sure to know how many clicks equal your dose. The pens are supposed to last quite a while after you start using them, but if you are concerned, you could keep the pen refrigerated to help preserve it until it is all gone.

For those of you using vials, remember to pay close attention to the difference between MG and ML. It is easy to get confused when calculating your correct dose. If you are using a 5mg/mL vial of semaglutide it means that each 1mL contains 5mg of medication. So if you are injecting 0.44mg each week, you will be using less than half of the vial in a month.

happened fast for me too. on the 2.5 starter dose i'd get hungrier toward the end of the week, but food noise came back after my next shot. as you go up in dose it gets smoother.
