Metformin AND Ozempic?!

Hey everyone,

I've been taking metformin for around six months now. I initially dropped about 15 pounds, but then I gained back about half of that, lost a little more, and gained it back again. I've been at a steady weight for about two months now, not losing or gaining anything.

I'm scheduled to see my doctor this Thursday for an Ozempic prescription.

I'm wondering if I should tell them that I want to keep taking metformin? Is it worth staying on metformin when I start Ozempic? Has anyone here taken Ozempic and metformin at the same time? Does it work better than just Ozempic alone?

I do both. They affect your body differently. Your doctor knows best. I stopped needing insulin, but I still use metformin.

I've been on both for approximately four years. I take a weekly 1 mg Ozempic shot and metformin twice daily. My doctor adjusted my metformin from extended release to regular and tweaked the timing. It's been working well.

Definitely talk to your doctor about continuing Metformin with Ozempic. You'll probably need both when you first start Ozempic because the starting dose is so low. As your Ozempic dose increases, the Metformin dose will likely decrease, or you might not need it at all.

This is a question for your doctor, but here's what might happen: you'll probably continue Metformin until your blood glucose levels are low enough to discontinue it later.

I'm on both for very specific reasons. My A1C is stuck between 6.2 and 6.7. I'm training for a triathlon and on 10mg of Mounjaro. It seems my liver is overproducing glucose. Metformin helps reduce glucagon output from the liver. I'll check my A1C again in a couple of months. I haven't had any side effects with tirzepatide or metformin (2000mg XR). I take the 2000 mg all at once before bed.

There's research indicating that metformin has anti-aging benefits. I've been taking both RETA and metformin for the past year and a half without any issues. Hopefully, it's contributing to anti-aging, lol.

I'm on both, and I think it's helpful to continue with metformin. I only take 500 mg daily, though. I was never prescribed more than that. I'm also on 1 mg of Ozempic weekly.

For your info... My doctor prescribed Metformin along with Ozempic and suggested I try it if I hit a plateau. So far, I've broken through plateaus by adjusting my calorie intake.

Hey A1C-Slayer, I'm not doing sermorelin, but I've heard about guys using it. Some people use sermorelin to help build and maintain muscle mass. They also believe it aids in workout recovery. It's supposed to be an HGH booster.

Semaglutide and regular Adderall. Been on Addy for years, semaglutide for 3 months. Just bumped to 1.5 and felt nausea but nothing that stopped my day. The very first dose though? I did 3 things I never do when sick: got a fever, threw up, missed work. Lasted 2 days. Never tried it without the Addy though so can't compare.
