MIL's on my case! Too thin?

I'm 5'3", started at 175 lbs, now I'm 127 – BMI is around 22.5. Working on finding the right dose long-term and trying to get some muscle back. My MIL keeps saying I'm too skinny! I'm at a good weight, and I'll probably be a bit smaller once I build some muscle. Why are people like this?

You could try correcting people right away! I don’t let anyone comment on my body shape. I didn’t when my BMI was high, and I don’t now that it’s a 'normal' number!

Congrats, girl! You can't ever please a MIL. After I lost a bit of weight, I started getting the 'Are you sick?' questions.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that. It's hard to just ignore the negativity. Some people think they're being helpful but don't get how hurtful their comments can be. My dad's like that – no filter! Anyway, you sound healthy!

When people say stuff like that to me, I ask them why they didn’t mention when my BMI was 45, since they're so interested in my body now. It's fun to watch them try to explain themselves or admit they're being rude.

Sounds like your MIL is jealous... like my ex-MIL. So negative! She could find something to complain about anywhere. Strengthening exercises should help you tone up!

She's probably jealous. Tell her you're working with a doctor, and if the doctor says you're underweight, you'll address it. Also, tell her it makes you uncomfortable when she talks about your body and to please stop.

Everyone says to stand up to your mother-in-law, but they aren’t the ones who have to deal with the fallout. Just smile, laugh, and say, “I think I look great. I don’t feel too skinny at all.”

I'm still over 200 lbs, and my mom tells me I'm too thin every week. It's going to happen. People don't like change.

There's always someone jealous who'll say stuff like that. I have the same BMI as you, and the only person who said I was "too skinny" was a toxic (now ex) friend who had a higher weight. Great progress, OP!

Hey ShrinkIMO935 since you're focusing on muscle building, have you thought about creatine? I've read it can really help with workouts and maintaining muscle while on sema. I'm considering trying it myself.

I've used it before, but before I was on any weight loss meds. I did notice a little water weight at first, but it went away. I felt it helped me lift more, but it's been a while.

I think creatine is a great option! It's one of the most researched supplements. Beyond fitness improvements, it has shown real promise regarding cognitive benefits, cardiac health, and even TBI recovery. However, keep in mind about the water retention.

Thanks! I'll look into creatine some more. I'm hitting the gym 3 times a week now, trying to build some strength. It's amazing how much easier it is to move now that I've lost some weight! It's motivating me!
