Mounjaro: A year later!

Well, fellas, it's been one year since I started Mounjaro. I thought I'd share my thoughts. My doc had wanted me to try it for a while because my blood pressure and A1c were elevated and stubborn. I was worried about side effects, so I resisted. Finally, in March of 2025, I caved and gave it a shot.

Before Mounjaro, my BMI was around 43, I wore 3X shirts, and my pants were a size 44.

I started at 2.5 mg and moved up every four weeks. At first, I had to seriously rethink my eating habits. The portions I was used to were WAY too big. I didn't always listen to my body when it told me I was full. But other than that, the side effects were pretty minimal at the lower doses. Much easier than when I started Metformin!

At 12.5 and 15 mg, I started getting nauseous and feeling yucky for a couple of days after the shot. Even now, a year in, I still feel pretty rough sometimes. My doctor prescribed something for the nausea, which helps.

So, after a year, I've lost about 100 lbs. My pants are now a size 34, and I wear a Large shirt! My blood pressure and A1c are good. My BMI is around 28. I've gone from "morbidly obese" to "overweight." I don't weigh myself often because I don't like the daily fluctuations.

I've also had some non-scale wins. I sleep better. My back and knees hurt less. I don't need a seat belt extender on planes anymore. I've had links taken out of my watch bands (they're still too big!). And I've donated a bunch of old clothes.

I was hesitant to talk about Mounjaro at first, but my friends kept noticing my weight loss and commenting on my small portions. I realized there was no reason to hide it. I always tell people it's not a magic bullet and that side effects are part of it. No one has been unkind about it.

Overall, I'm really glad I started Mounjaro. Nothing else has worked this well for me.

You look amazing! It's incredible how much a single weekly injection can change someone's life. I'm sure your family and friends have noticed the changes.

Thanks for the info! It was a great read.

My old insurance denied GLP-1s (Ozempic and Mounjaro) multiple times, even with borderline diabetes, obesity, and heart issues. I tried some compounded stuff but didn't see much happen.

Now that I have Medicare, they approved it. I'm starting month three.

I avoid the scale because I get fixated on it, but I can tell I'm losing weight in my waist, chest, and legs.

I have bad knees, so exercise is hard, but I'm walking faster now.

I used to love sweets, but now I don't crave them. Same with salty snacks. And I haven't had a drink in ages.

I'm in this for the long haul!

Thanks again!

I hit a big milestone today! For the first time in maybe 2 decades, I'm under 200 lbs! Started at 235, now at 199. So happy!

That's awesome!

I remember when I dropped under 200. Such a good feeling!

It's been about 6 months on semaglutide and I'm finally into the 100s! Haven't been below 200 in over a decade. I'm 5'8", started at 275. I was a size 20-22, now I'm a size 14. I was getting discouraged about losing only 5-7 lbs a month, but it's all added up!
