Mounjaro and Booze - Tell me your stories!

I'm going to start taking this stuff soon, and I'm hoping it'll help with my alcohol cravings. I mostly eat a normal amount of food, but I'm overweight because I drink too much beer. I'd love to hear about your experiences to get my hopes up even more.

It really varies from person to person. Some people instantly lose all interest in alcohol, others experience stomach problems if they drink, and some aren't affected whatsoever.

I'm in that last bunch. I do suspect that individuals with a history of alcohol abuse are more likely to lose their urge to drink, but it's just a theory based on current research and my own observations.

I come from a family with a lot of alcoholics, and I didn't really think about drinking much before the shots. But a few weeks after starting, I realized that I must have had some low-level cravings that are now totally gone. It's been over a year now, and they haven't returned.

I've had dinner at friends' houses and been happy to have a single glass of wine. I enjoyed it but didn't feel like I needed another one. I actually couldn't be bothered.

It happened instantly for me at 2.5mg. The cravings just disappeared. But now it's week 9 at the same dose, and they're slowly returning. Still much less than before, though.

I wouldn't describe myself as a serious drinker, but I could easily have a couple of drinks every evening if the mood struck. Now? I have zero interest in drinking, I really could care less.

I still feel the occasional urge, but when I actually drink, I get so queasy that I almost throw up. So, I've pretty much stopped.

I used to be a heavy drinker. I stopped completely on day one of the injections, and I couldn't even stand the smell of alcohol for a good three months. Now, at 4.5 months, I'm almost at my goal weight. I can take a few sips of a fruity drink, and I can tolerate being around friends who are drinking, but my face immediately turns red like I'm having an allergic reaction. Life is better without alcohol in my stomach!

I've been taking it for 9 months now, and I used to look forward to a specific cocktail or glass of wine. Now I have no desire for it. If I walk past a chocolate bar, it practically screams my name, but my favorite drink no longer appeals to me. Given the choice, I now prefer to consume my calories as food. Also, I've seen other people mention potentially bad hangovers from even a small amount of alcohol, or maybe some stomach issues, so I personally don't want to risk it until I'm on a maintenance dose.

I don't usually drink because I don't like the way it makes me feel. I'm also a total lightweight. One drink and I'm buzzed, two and I'm drunk... I don't go near three.

Last night I had a pretty big espresso martini. It had absolutely no effect. I'm on a 5 mg dose. Go figure.

When I first started taking MJ, my desire to drink alcohol nearly vanished. Over the weeks and months that followed, it's returned a bit, but not to the level it was before. More importantly, when I get the urge to have a drink (similar to when I get the urge to snack), I find myself more able to pause and think about whether I really _do_ want a drink, or if it's just habit leading me to the liquor cabinet.

That's interesting! I'm hoping I'll get that effect with food, especially sweets. I'd rather have protein!

Wow, reading all these stories really gives me hope. I'm only on week 9, I'm hoping I get to a point where I just don't even think about alcohol, I guess it just takes time and finding the right dose? I'm on 2.5mg and it feels like it's starting to not work.

I saw a post about someone who quit drinking and couldn't eat anything on Ozempic. It mentioned the importance of "mechanical eating"-- setting alarms to ensure you consume a certain amount of calories at regular intervals. Seems like solid medical advice.

Totally agree with WellWin. It's like your body isn't getting the fuel it needs, so you feel terrible. Forcing myself to eat small meals throughout the day, even when I don't feel like it, has made a huge difference. An egg, some chicken, or even just some soup. And lots of water! Helps so much.

Thanks for sharing. The welts on my outer thighs are rough cosmetically, even if they itch okay. Wondering if just one poke (GHK without the KPV) would cut down the swelling.
