Around nine months back, I mentioned that I got knocked up while taking MJ. I was 27 then, now 28. I went from 250 to 152 in about a 10-month span and was keeping it steady on a 2.5mg dose. I had insulin issues, a sluggish thyroid, PCOS, and some other long-term health problems when I started the medication. My insurance signed off on it because of my long-standing insulin resistance and how I couldn't handle the side effects of metformin.
Since I have PCOS, we figured getting pregnant would be a long shot, if it happened at all. So, it was a shock when I saw a positive test the first time we tried. My OB was okay with me staying on MJ while we were trying, as long as I tested before injecting. That's how we caught it so early.
My pregnancy was pretty smooth, no problems. We just had a healthy baby boy who weighed 8lbs 11oz, and he's doing great.
The whole time I was pregnant, my labs looked good, I didn't go back to being insulin resistant, and I put on a reasonable amount of weight. I went from 152 to 182, which my OB was happy with. It's been about a week since I gave birth, and I'm already back down to 167 even with the crazy hunger from breastfeeding.
So, if anyone's worried about what happens after pregnancy, you can stay close to your goal weight even without MJ.
I'm planning on finishing breastfeeding and then going back on MJ if I need it for my health. It helped me with a few things, especially with lowering inflammation. I'm hoping I won't need more than a maintenance dose after nursing – that's the plan, anyway.
So, my sweet little baby/Mounjaro baby was definitely a success. We aren't posting pictures of him online, but trust me, he's a cutie.
