Mounjaro down the drain!

Been on Mounjaro since late '24, thanks to my insurance. I'm up to 15mg, and honestly, it's not doing much anymore. My appetite is back. A couple of months ago, I started trying smaller, more frequent doses. I'm in the States, so I have the single-use pens. I've been transferring the doses into a sterile vial to do this. Well, last night disaster struck! The needle hit the vial stopper wrong and didn't inject. When I pulled back to check, whoosh! My precious Mounjaro sprayed all over my kitchen counter. I almost cried. I felt like lapping up the mess, LOL.

So, now I've been injecting two 15mg pens into a vial and taking 10mg doses every 4-5 days. This means I'm going to run out before my refill. I'm thinking about sourcing some tirz from elsewhere, just in case this happens again. Has anyone switched between script MJ/Zep and other tirz? Seems like it probably wouldn't be different, right?
 
Maybe you could pull the cartridge out of the pen and stick it in a reusable pen where you can dial the dose yourself? Take apart an empty Mounjaro pen to see how they're made. I'd guess they use the same kinds of cartridges.
 
Whoa, that's way different than Ozempic pens. I wasn't expecting that breakdown. The Ozempic pens are built more like those reusable ones some folks use.
 
Regarding traveling with GLP-1 meds, especially if refrigeration is a concern:

  • Some meds, like Wegovy, only need refrigeration before the first use. After that, they can be stored at room temperature.
  • There are also travel pouches designed to keep refrigerated medications cool. Some need to be activated with water. Just be sure to have a reminder to refrigerate or reactivate the pouch when you arrive at your destination!
 
I've been on sema for a while and travel frequently. Here's what I do to manage my doses:

  • A few weeks before my trip, I adjust my injection day to the day before I leave. This way, I'm not messing with my schedule too much.
  • I take my shot the night before I travel.
  • Then, I skip the dose that would be due during my vacation.
  • Finally, I take my next dose as soon as I get back home.

Skipping a dose hasn't been an issue for me, but everyone is different!
 
I think it's important to consider the original packaging when traveling with medication, especially if you're flying. Security might want to see the prescription label and original box. A fancy 3D-printed case might raise questions.

Good to know about the travel pouches! I have a trip coming up and was wondering how to handle the refrigeration issue. Thanks!
