Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my experience with Mounjaro after about 12 weeks. I'm a big guy, started around 680 pounds. Haven't stepped on a scale recently, but guessing I'm down somewhere between 50 and 80 pounds based on how clothes fit and how I feel.
Here's what I've noticed:
1. Food cravings are way down. That constant nagging for pizza and cake? Pretty much gone. My wife can keep cookies in the house for the kids without me inhaling them. Never thought that would happen.
2. Portion control and mindful eating. I'm aiming for 1600-2400 calories a day. I know that's a lot, but I'm also a large person. Some of you smaller folks might give me the side-eye for eating so much, but it's working for me.
Breakfast is usually yogurt, sometimes with fruit or granola.
Lunch: Salad with lots of veggies and some protein, or homemade soup.
Dinner: Whatever the family's eating, but smaller portions and trying to avoid too many carbs/grease. Instead of two burgers, I have one turkey burger. Instead of fries, I have a salad.
Snacks: Beef jerky, cheese sticks, diet popsicles, nuts, etc. Everything gets weighed on a food scale.
3. Exercise. I don't work right now because of my size (and before anyone jumps to conclusions, I'm not on disability). I'm lucky my wife makes good money, so I can be a stay-at-home dad while I get healthy. That meant I was super sedentary.
Not anymore. My son and I walk every day, even if it's just around the house. We do yard work, and the house is cleaner.
I even started lifting weights with adjustable dumbbells.
4. Body Changes. Since I can't weigh myself, I'm going by other things.
I couldn't do any of these things for years: Wear normal shoes, put on my own socks/shoes, cut my toenails, fit in the car comfortably, wear pants other than a couple pairs of stretchy athletic pants, shower without needing to lie down, do yard work, see my feet while lying down, go to friend's houses, play catch with my son, walk down the street, or go into a store.
I can do all of that now. It's amazing.
5. Hope. This is what this medicine has given me. I see a path to a healthier, happier, longer life.
Happy to chat with anyone else who's in a similar boat (or anyone else, really).
